Planning your kitchen - the process in detail

  • Step 1: book a shopfloor consultation with one of our fitted kitchen Partners. They'll help you decide the best range for your lifestyle and budget, and will arrange for samples for you to view in your home
  • Step 2: once you've decided on your budget and style of kitchen, make an appointment for one of our experienced planners to visit. This service costs £50, but it's fully refundable should you decide to go ahead with your plan
  • The planner will measure your room, and work out design details to create a room that suits your lifestyle, makes  best use of the available space, and works within your budget. They'll then produce an estimate to supply and fit your new kitchen, and send you an initial plan of your design with colour elevations
  • When your planner has finalised your design, they'll invite you back in store to present it, explaining details and the cost estimate. Once you've approved the plans and estimate, we'll order your kitchen and get everything moving. You'll need to pay a 20% non-refundable deposit, and the balance will be payable 2 weeks before the delivery day
  • If you'd like a little help around knowing what you need to consider when planning your kitchen, read these tips from Jude Keenan, one of our experienced kitchen planners
  • To give some idea of cost comparison between the ranges, download our comparison guide PDF. Find out more about the consultation, planning and fitting process by watching these videos, which tell the story of Ian & Katie's new kitchen

Installing your kitchen

  • Step 3: once you've accepted the estimate and we've arranged a fitting date, our installation team will remove your old kitchen and fit the new one, with all plumbing, electrical and gas connections carried out by accredited technicians
  • Every kitchen unit is delivered assembled for easy installation. Soft-close drawers and doors come as standard, and drawers extend fully for easy access. Drawer and door fronts are detachable for cleaning, and all our kitchens use the latest internal accessories to allow flexibility and ensure that space is used to its maximum
  • Step 4: after all the work's been completed, your planner will arrange follow-up visit to make sure you're happy with your new kitchen. All John Lewis kitchens come with a 10-year guarantee
