House by John Lewis Maine Bedstead, Kingsize
Lasted a month
My 8 months pregnant (5'1 and under 9st) girlfriend just sat on the edge of the bed to get into it, when we heard a massive crack and bang before the bed collapsed under her.
For the time being we are having to sleep on mattress on the floor. Not happy at all.

I really like the product; had no issues unlike some of the other reviewers; fingers crossed it won't break but it seems a pretty sturdy and well made bed to me. I was worried that white laminate may look cheap but on the contrary it looks great.

Things that go SNAP in the night!
We bought the king size version of this bed 1 month ago.
All hunky dory until we were woken at 3am this morning to a loud SNAPPING sound before being deposited on the bedroom floor!
The central beam had snapped and the bed is now totally unuseable.
I did look at reviews before buying the bed and had seen that other customers had had similar issues with the central beam 'snapping'. Still, the bed was in our price range so we took the chance.
Lovely bed, but looks as though there is an issue with the construction of the central beam.

Stylish, high quality bedstead
This bed is everything I've been looking for and it's really lived up to my expectations.
The shaped wooden legs are very attractive and make this is great choice for a room with underfloor heating. I agree with the other reviewer that the sloped headboard works beautifully for sitting up in bed, plus it creates the illusion of more space. If you have a coloured wall behind the bed, it looks really quite striking.
Overall, the simple lines make this bedstead a very stylish centrepiece to your bedroom and the matching bedside table looks great with it.
I also chose the bedstead assembly service, which I'd highly recommend. The delivery team were very professional and took all the mess away with them!

High quality bed
I ordered this bed in March 2013 (in the 'Ash' king size), and was very pleased all round and think it is very comfortable and excellent value for its price.
The bed is attractive and looks and feels solidly constructed. The central support beam isn’t laminated but appears to be a thick solid piece of wood that is probably stronger than if it had support ‘feet’. Having slept in it on my own for the last six months it has certainly held up so far and I don’t see why there should be any problems if I were to share it with a partner in future. If anything were to go it would be the slats as I later noticed one of them was a bit damaged (probably whilst the bed was being assembled, or whilst it was in transit). This is the only reason why I have awarded the bed a four star, rather than five star rating.
The headboard slopes backwards which makes it very comfortable for sitting up in it against a pillow while reading or using a laptop. The slatted design of the headboard helps reduce any appearance of bulk (although being a bedstead rather than a divan this is far less problematic anyway), and there is plenty of storage space beneath the bed.
Altogether I feel this is a high quality bed, and a good choice.

The first delivery of this bed arrived with a warped headboard, which meant that most of the vertical slats were flapping loose as they weren't long enough to bridge the gap from the base to the top of the headboard.
They have some small dowels on the end but it doesn't look like any wood glue was used to secure them in place, so any slight warp in the top of the headboard would cause them to pop out..
The slats in the replacement headboard were all secure, but a couple in the centre still had a mm or two gap at the bottom, so there might be a manufacturing or design flaw there.
The fitting of the head and foot boards to the sides is a fiddly nut and bolt affair, not helped by the fact the supplied spanner is slightly too large and so tends to slip when trying to tighten up the nut.
Overall, a nice bed that's sadly let down by poor quality in a few areas. Not what I expected from John Lewis!

Only buy this bed if you enjoy the thrill of wondering if tonight will be the night that it gives way under you.
When we bought this bed in March 2013, it looked good and seemed quite solid. However, just two months later the middle strut snapped and the bed collapsed. The middle strut was constructed of little blocks of wood glued together which is pretty poor, and totally inadequate to support two adults. We bravely accepted a replacement bed. Sadly, the construction of the replacement was just as flimsy. Both of the beds that we were sent did not have any middle support feet which you can see on the product pictures. It's not that they were missing from the boxes - there was no mention of them in the assembly instructions. The inclusion of these extra feet might have made a difference to the sturdiness of the bed, but I doubt it.
