John Lewis 15m Dual Retractable Washing Line
Poor quality, not fit for the job
This is my third one, all replaced under warranty within a year (thank you John Lewis). My issue is with the plastic case attachment to the metal plate. Cheap plastic (not weather proof) being held by 2 metal pins, plastic gives way all the time over time. As I keep getting a replacement, I am ok about it as nothing else on the market at the moment. Keep reusing the same brick bolts!

Doesn't store flat
The unit is quite bulky and, although it pivots on the fixing bracket, it does not allow the unit to lie flush against a wall when not in use. Chances are it will swing loose (and clatter against the wall or post where it is fixed) in the wind which may be annoying to some people. My unit (shop bought) also didn't come with any instructions but, as others have pointed out, it's not rocket science to install. Finally, the line will go quite slack with a heavy load of bed linen so it may be worth installing higher than you might expect.

Poor quality - not fit for purpose
A good idea badly executed.
After very little use the plastic body has broken in half along the seam - due to the stresses loaded across the seam when clothes are hanging. Very bad design.
Will be returning the item.

Washing line keeps snapping!
Similar to other recent reviews, I've had the same problem where the line sags and then snaps. It's happened three times now, the snap always occurs where the line knots to the hook. It happens when you try and raise the sagging line with a laundry prop or attempt tighten it.
I only had two towels on the line last time this happened, so it's not overburdened! Won't be using this washing line again.

Will be returning this item
The plastic line on this washing line is not fit for purpose. With a king size duvet cover on the line, it sagged almost to the ground, and when pulled to tighten, the actual plastic line snapped. We have since retied the line to the end hooks, to try to re-use it, but even with a full a load of lighter washing, the line sagged very low, then snapped again when tightened. I will taking this line back for a refund.

Don't waste your money!
Bought this in autumn last year and hardly used the product - Went to use it today for the first time since October and and like other reviewers have mentioned, one of the rings holding the line that hooks into the post broke! Rendering the washing line useless.
Overall a cheaply made product which is clearly not strong enough to hold your washing!
Not what I would expect from John Lewis and will be taking it back for a refund on Monday!

Great idea - having two lines is fantastic. However I am disappointed with the quality. The plastic line stretches and has already broken once. The cleats for securing the line aren't quite right and it is difficult to get the tension required. I will give it a little longer but I may be returning the item if I have any more problems.

Broke after a few months
I bought one of these in the summer of 2012, it seemed great but after a few months' use one of the rings holding the line to hooks in our post broke.
I carried on using the other line but that has just broken in the same way.
I can probably tie the cords directly to the hooks but that means I won't be able to retract the lines when I want.
So unusually I am unhappy with a JL product!
