Q & As

John Lewis Soft Grip Pinking Shears 2.4 5 8 8
Skip these and get Fiskars... Bought a pair of these John Lewis pinking scissors some time in Aug--Oct 2013. They were terrible from the onset. They chewed the fabric and left uncut and fraying bits. I got an exchange which worked well for two sewing sessions but then also started chewing fabric (thin 100% cotton and denim) . I sew once every 2 to months so couldn't put the issues to normal wear and tear or misuse. I returned the second pair and got store vouchers (hence the one star here for customer service. I didn't have my receipt with me and returned the scissors 6 months after initial purchase. FYI, they do come with a 3-year Guarantee anyway. I've since bought a pair of Fiskars pinking scissors which work very well (so far). In fairness I need to review the Fiskars after a few projects so will be back here with an update. I found John Lewis's own brand soft grip pinking scissors not fit for purpose but when I mentioned this to the customer services lady she said it was the first time she's had to give a refund for them. Given the other customer reviews here, I'd say this is not an isolated problem. John Lewis needs to look into this product or just stop selling it! Save yourself the trouble and go for Fiskars or another good brand instead! 26 May 2014
Useless product. These pinking shears were so blunt they couldn't even cut through a single layer of thin cotton fabric. If you are after a chewed mess, buy these. Personally, I will be returning. 26 May 2014
Disappointing Used these twice since purchase. Second time they appear to be blunt & shred cotton fabric! Very disappointed. Hope to return item. 06 December 2013
John Lewis Soft Grip Pinking Shears These pinking shears are a good quality, sturdy product. The lining of the grip apertures ensures accurate control when cutting although the shears are a little heavy for extensive cutting out from a pattern. However, a satisfactory, clean cut was obtained. But the shears were rather difficult for a left-hander to use. 02 January 2013
Disappointing Purchased these to use for single sided bunting but unfortunately had to send them back as they chewed through medium/thin weight cotton fabric. 19 July 2012
Disappointing These pinking shears jam when cutting a single layer of fabric and have no chance of getting through anything thicker. I'm disappointed and am planning to return them, as I've only used them once and they apparently have a guarantee. 28 June 2012
What a snip! My first ever pair of pinking shears. Great clean cut so far. An absolute must are the soft grip handles for repeated use to avoid those sore scissor hands. Why didn't I buy myself some years ago........ 25 January 2012
A must have for bunting! Pinking shears are always highly recommended by any dressmaker because they are designed to prevent fabrics from fraying so easily, especially delicate silks and chiffons. On this particular pair, the rubberised texture of the soft grip handles avoid any slipping and allow you to have maximum control when going around corners, making them very comfortable to use. I use them all the time for bunting because it saves heaps of time and leaves edges looking quite pretty and rather shabby chic! 15 July 2011
