John Lewis Tristan Ceiling Light
Classic Glass bistro shade
Classic style, simple to assemble, looks the business. Very little to choose between this and more expensive branded items.

Gave the French cafe style we wanted for our kitchen
These are nothing special to look at in themselves but once installed they gave the French cafe style appearance we were looking for in our new kitchen.
On the down side the glass bowl of all four lights that we bought where very dirty when they arrived and needed a good clean. There is little room in the ceiling fitting for the wiring especially if you want to be able to adjust the light height once installed. You can get around this by making a hole in the ceiling for the spare wire to pass through but MAKE SURE that this is done in a way that does not impact on the secure fitting of the light to the ceiling.
Using a clear bulb or a pearl bulb makes a significant difference to the lighting effect. A clear bulb is noticeably brighter (not surprisingly) but give a star light effect/pattern on the ceiling due to the ribs in the glass bowl. A pearl bulb gave a softer lighting effect with no pattern on the ceiling. It is worth trying both types of bulb to see what works best for you before deciding which bulb type to use.
One other adjustment we did, and worked surprisingly well, was to install two of our four lights a few inches higher than the other two. This was more effective, style wise, than it sounds.
On the negative side, the maximum bulb wattage (40W) is low so these do not provide a lot of light for a kitchen (hence we installed four).
The metal appeared black in the shop and in some of the photos but is actual a dark brown (dark “bronze”).
Despite the negatives mentioned above we would buy these again.

The shade is lovely, and it makes the room so much brighter than our old one did.

Nice design, good value
I bought three of these for my kitchen - as lights over the central island. Unfortunately the cable is clipped into the light holder in such a way as to make it difficult to remove, so it is quite difficult to replace the cable with a longer one. That apart, they look good and work well. Not sure about the "scratches" on the brown metal surfaces which presumably are to give it an antique look, but actually just make it look damaged.

Beautiful light, really pleased
Bought this for our hall. It is really good quality, heavy glass and the brass trim looks good too. It chucks out loads of light and looks expensive. We picked it up a couple of days after ordering from our local Waitrose store...it just couldn't be any easier!

We bought this shade for our study and have since returned it , not because there was anything wrong with it , it just wasn't right for the room. The returns policy was very good and we have since bought another fitting from the Norwich store

We love this light. It works really well in our room. The actual lenght of the wire is long so we had to adjust it. Also because of the glass shade it is heavy so our electrician had to ensure that the rose was securely fixed to the ceiling joist. Overally would highly recommend this light.

This light fitting looks great in our new attic. The ridged glass and simple dome shape reminded us of old halophane lights, most versions of which are usually considerably more expensive. The metal cup at ceiling level and at the top of the dome are actually painted dark brown and appear to be scratched. We initially thought this was damage, but is actually a deliberate finish to give a "bronze effect". As this was not visible in our situation we kept the light, but it might not be appropriate for every setting.
It was quite simple to install and the length of the flex ( also dark brown) adjusted to suit.
