About what I expected given the power wattage, ie OK for medium weight curtain seams but struggled where eg. the curtain heading tape is folded over onto a folded edge of the curtain material. Plastic bobbin didn't hold much cotton thread but my old metal bobbins fit so have gone back to using them. Pleased with the extras supplied and found the machine easy to use. And only about a quarter of the weight of my old (45 years) one!

Bought this in a rush 6 months ago and it's been great! Although I'm used to the expensive Berninas at university, I'm still a beginner so this little machine does everything I need it to do, and it's easy to use and reliable.
It sometimes has a little trouble getting through thicker materials and the needle breaks, but I think that's my fault most of the time.
Would definitely recommend! Surprised to see so many negative reviews here.

I have recently had this sewing machine bought for me as a Birthday Present. Have a problem with threading the needle as the eye of the take-up lever does not come above the top of the machine even when the needle is at it's highest point. Is this a problem with the machine or is there a trick to getting the thread through the lever?
Once I eventually started sewing machine worked well

My mother bought this product for me for Christmas from John Lewis. One contact with the reverse lever whilst trying the product out, and the plastic lever BROKE. Very poorly made! I am now trying to source parts.

Bought this for sewing at home. First machine broke halfway through the first project. The reverse stitching lever is really poorly designed and the plastic knob came away from the metal rod inside. JL very good and organised a replacement for the next day and picked up the old one. The second machine is faulty, keeps locking up underneath, also something is discolouring the top thread - white thread is now grey on the top of the fabric. Not very impressed with Singer. Am going to return this one and get a different machine.

So simple to use and ordering and delivery super fast.
Love the machine, have had no problems with it so far. Only think they could have included was a tiny screwdriver, as you need this to adjust the tension of the bobbin.

Used it once.... was hemming a skirt (light cotton) and power suddenly failed and no idea why! Checked fuse in plug, socket all ok and I have no idea what has happened - it appears 'dead'!
I am used to an 'old fashioned' machine so it took me quite a while to get to grips with this new one BUT: I find the bobbin arrangement very odd and not user friendly, the needle hard to thread and the light poor! So all in all, VERY disappointed and it will be going back as a faulty item.

Ido have a machine but it's too heavy and very old. I needed the one which I can move about easily. I have not used my new singer 8280 yet, but I am happy with it as it is lighter and looks simple enough to use it. I will add more view latter.
