I purchased this sewing machine to start me off in my sewing venture over 17 years ago - i bought a shop and offered tailoring services. It was a workhorse and I was sure it would wear out pretty soon... many years and thousands of hours of use later - it's going strong! I have 15 sewing machines in total mis of makes and types... and this is my go-to machine for jobs that need working on to a high spec. Love it!
Now I work with a charity to repair and send away sewing machines to underdeveloped countries and I have asked the question - Which machine brand is the best for long term durability to be worthy of sending away ? - expecting Singer to be the answer, I was told New Home - which is Janome's aka name. Not a total surprise... what did surprise me was that Singer came at the bottom of the league.

A lightweight but solidly built (metal frame) machine ideal for a very wide range of projects. It is easy to thread and run, - very smooth with a solid case. The manual is clear and comprehensive. I know that this model is made exclusively for JL by Janome and would thoroughly recommend it.

Excellent advice and guidance by John Lewis staff, lead to me choosing this machine. It is just right for everyday furnishing and fabric work. I am very happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by indyhan An all rounder!
I am a semi professional dressmaker who has gone through her fair share of sewing machines (Singer, Brother & Toyota). I wanted something that will last me years.
I carefully read reviews for this one before buying and I couldn't find a single bad one. They are right!
It's quiet, smooth and once you figure out the knobs it's easy to use. It's well made with little compartments for all the presser feet and a clear diagram of the different stitches.
Only problem I have is that it isn't that great with really thick material (i.e. 4 layers of denim) but all my previous machines struggled with this. At first I struggled with the speed as it's much slower than my Singer however, it's a blessing in disguise as it means I take my time and not run material through without thinking.
I just can't believe how quiet it is. My first Janome, and I don't think I can go back!

I bought this machine 13 years ago!
It has been brilliant, a good all round basic machine.
I have made hand bags, clothes, curtains and applique etc. It's brilliant for buttonholes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by happysewer great sewing machine
this machine is ideal for my use - robust, very easy to use -especially threading the machine.
My daughter had previously decided this was the machine fo her and I could not find a better option for myself when my (very old) machine finally died.

Seems to be a good little machine ,not too expensive.I wanted a machine that did not have too many gadgets as I find it confusing.

I bought this machine a month ago after my last one died after 30 years - that came from John Lewis as well. It took me a long time to make a decision and after borrowing a couple of machines from friends where they were so lightweight I knew I wanted a machine with a metal base to add stability and weight. So far I've not been disappointed. It's easy to use, good stitch quality with everything both a beginner and experienced dressmaker could want. If you don't need masses of craft/embroideriy stitches then this does everything you would need, I have an over locker as well which gives me the best combination.
