How to dress forCHRISTMAS 2020
Festivities look a little different this year, but from the work Zoom party to Christmas dinner, we’ve got your outfits covered
2020 – a year like no other. A year of challenges, restrictions and more time spent at home than ever before. It’s also been a time of coming together, supporting each other and finding creative ways to adapt (hello, Zoom and face coverings).
It’s in this spirit of adaptation that we approached five of our beloved fashion brands with a challenge: what do we wear for Christmas this year? We know that parties and festivities are set to be more virtual than IRL, and certainly centred around our homes, but that desire for celebration and dressing up will still be there. It’s about the art of dressing like you’re going somewhere much more fabulous than the fridge (again).
With this in mind, Whistles, Hush, Ghost, Mint Velvet and All Saints have each designed two outfits exclusively for us – one dressed up, one dressed down; all gorgeous.
‘We know Christmas will be different for many people this year,’ says Jo Bennett, Partner and Head of Womenswear. ‘So we hope to bring a little bit of joy and a small moment of escapism with this collection. We have collaborated with five of our brands to bring together these exclusive outfits that will have our customers covered for the festive season, no matter what their celebrations entail.’
Let’s not forget that when it comes to Christmas Day itself, most people tend to go one way or the other – properly dressed up or coolly dressed down. Either way, this collection delivers. ‘Personally, I can’t wait to dance around the house with my boys in the Kitchen Disco Two-Piece from Hush,’ Jo says. ‘I love the sequin jumper paired with the super-silky charcoal joggers – ultimate comfort mixed with magical sparkles.’ Which way will you go?
DRESSED DOWNThe Kitchen DiscoTwo-Piece
If there was an outfit that summed up ‘best of both worlds’ then this would be it. The all-over-sequins sweater ticks the glamorous-from-the-waist-up box and is super sparkly as well as super comfortable. And the luxe joggers have a tapered leg for a more groomed silhouette than your average sweats.
DRESSED UPThe ‘All That Glitters’ Mini
A sequined dress is not just for Christmas...and thanks to the relaxed shape of this shimmering A-line mini, it doesn’t feel too OTT to be appropriate for all manner of parties and nights out after the festive season. It looks stunning with strappy heels but equally, you could pair with pristine white trainers.
DRESSED DOWNThe Bath to Bucks Fizz Boilersuit
For the Delivering maximum impact with minimal effort, this velvet boilersuit is one-step-dressing at its finest. It’s ideal for the person who ‘doesn’t do dresses’ and looks infinitely cool (with the velvet adding that festive spin). Just add chic slippers and a glass of fizz.
DRESSED UPThe Cocktail O’Clock Co-ord
An evening of cocktails calls for sparkle, and there’s nothing more dazzling than this mint sequins co-ord with subtle fish-tail hem and pretty puff sleeves. Get extra mileage from the look by breaking it into separates and respinning with other pieces in your wardrobe. The top will look amazing with high-waisted jeans and simply add a cashmere jumper to the skirt.
DRESSED DOWNThe Festive Facetime Frock
Be the best dressed guest at your next virtual party with Ghost’s floral midi. The signature fluid silhouette offers maximum comfort, while the bold print and festive colours pack plenty of screen appeal. Footwear of choice? Trainers.
DRESSED UPThe ‘All Is Bright’ Midi
With its subtle high neck, fluted sleeves and gently nipped-in waist, this vintage-inspired dress is the epitome of elegance. The seasonal red makes it perfect for Christmas but you’ll wear it so much more, too. Team with your favourite flats for a festive lunch, switching to heels and statement earrings for moments that require added glamour.
DRESSED DOWNThe Floaty Christmas Dinner Dress
Is this the perfect Christmas Day dress? A dress will always make you feel more ‘done’ anyway and this ticks a lot of boxes. The pretty frilled tiers give it festive appeal and the roomy smock shape makes it ideal for sitting down for the largest feast of the year.
DRESSED UPThe After Hours Maxi
You might be having that night-cap at home but you can still create after-dark elegance with this sophisticated midnight-hued maxi dress. The cinched waist and longer length sleeves makes this a universally flattering choice, while the tie detailed neckline provides a fashion-forward nod.
DRESSED DOWNThe White Christmas Tracksuit
Who said comfy can’t mean chic? We know that winter white is not practical but it is so chic, especially when worn head to toe. And this luxe tracksuit delivers on ease and polish, making it the ultimate stylish choice for a night of Christmas films and Quality Street.
DRESSED UPThe Show-Stopping Slip
If you want to go all out - think black tie at home - then this champagne-hued slip could be the answer.. The fluid silhouette makes for an effortlessly eye-catching take on festive dressing, especially when paired with an embellished shrug and strappy heel.
