GIFT CARDS, E-GIFT CARDS AND GIFT VOUCHERS
John Lewis Partnership gift cards and e-gift cards are perfect flexible presents for any occasion.
You can redeem your gift card or e-gift cards as part or full payment for goods purchased through:
- johnlewis.com or waitrose.com
- John Lewis & Partners or Waitrose & Partners shops, including to purchase food and drink in our catering units (excludes third-party outlets in John Lewis & Partners shops)
- Phone orders made via our Customer Service centre on 03456 049 049
Using your card(s) online, in shops or over the phone
Shop as usual on the website and then proceed to checkout. During checkout you’ll be asked to enter 2 codes for each gift card or e-gift card you wish to use. These are:
1. the 19-digit number found on the back of the gift card or included in your e-gift card email
2. the scratch-off PIN found on the back of the gift card or included in your e-gift card email
For multiple gift cards, enter one set of codes at a time. After entering the gift card codes, your order balance will be automatically updated with credit to the value of the gift card(s). If there’s any balance to pay, you can use a debit or credit card in the usual way.
If the total order value is less than the value of the gift card or e-gift card, any balance will remain on your account and can be applied to future purchases, provided that the card has not expired. If you wish to use your remaining gift card balance at a later date, keep hold of your gift card or e-gift card email.
You can spend your e-gift card in any of our shops; simply print your e-gift card at home and present it when you pay. Waitrose & Partners shops can only accept a printed copy of the e-gift card, but you can present the downloaded e-gift card on your phone in John Lewis & Partners shops.
Gift cards and e-gift cards can be redeemed for orders placed via our Customer Service centre on 03456 049 049.
We will simply ask you at time of purchase for the gift card number and the PIN. For gift cards, the PIN is on the back of the gift card and is visible after removing the silver scratch panel.
Gift card and e-gift card exclusions
You cannot use your gift card or e-gift card to purchase from any of the following:
- John Lewis Gift List
- Third-party restaurants and cafes in John Lewis & Partners shops
- John Lewis Home Solutions
- All petrol stations
- Welcome Break shops
- Waitrose & Partners Cookery School
- The Waitrose & Partners Farm Shop and Nursery
- Waitrose licensed shops in UAE
- Magazine subscriptions
- Photo printing
- Software downloads on johnlewis.com
You cannot use the gift card or e-gift card to discharge indebtedness in respect of an account card or credit card issued by John Lewis plc, Waitrose Limited or John Lewis Financial Services Limited, nor can you use it for the purchase either directly or indirectly of any financial product or service, including John Lewis Partnership gift vouchers.
Help with a gift card or e-gift card
My gift card or e-gift card isn’t being accepted. What do I do?
If you find that your card or voucher is not accepted at checkout, check the gift card number and PIN you have entered and try again. If you continue to experience difficulties, email our Customer service team or call us on 03456 049 049 7am - 11pm, 7 days a week.
I’ve lost my gift card or e-gift card
Please protect your card and treat it as cash; we cannot replace lost, stolen or damaged cards. If you accidentally delete your e-gift card email, please call 0330 123 0350.
Will my gift card or e-gift card expire?
Gift cards and e-gift cards expire 24 months from purchase or last use. Buying a product or making a balance enquiry refreshes the 24-month expiry period. After expiry, we will not refund any balance remaining.
Can I exchange my gift card or e-gift card for a refund?
We don’t give change or refunds on gift cards or e-gift cards.
Can I use my gift card or e-gift card for international orders?
You can use gift cards, e-gift cards and vouchers on our UK site when you place an order for international delivery, but not if you're placing an order on one of our international sites.
Returning an item purchased with a gift card or e-gift card
Returning items bought in a shop
For items bought in store with a gift card or e-gift card, return the item to one of our shops and you’ll be given a gift card to the correct value.
Returning items bought online
If you originally purchased the item online using a gift card or e-gift card, after your item has been returned, we will credit your johnlewis.com account to the relevant value. This will be visible in your Account area after you log in and the funds will be available to use on your next online purchase.
Please note that if you did not have a johnlewis.com account when making your gift card purchase, in order to access the refund you'll need to set a johnlewis.com account up with us using the same address used to make the purchase. Set up a johnlewis.com account here.
If you place an order at waitrose.com using a gift card or e-gift card and subsequently cancel the order before delivery, your gift card will be refunded. This does not affect your statutory rights.
John Lewis Partnership gift vouchers are no longer available to buy unless you're buying them as part of a Gift List. As an alternative to gift vouchers, you can purchase gift cards online or in our shops.
We're still issuing vouchers as rewards on our Partnership Card programme, and you can still use them online and in our shops.
How to use gift vouchers

• the 10-digit serial number on the bottom right of the voucher
• the 7-character online security code underneath the scratch-off panel
• for multiple gift vouchers, enter one set of voucher codes at a time
After entering in the gift voucher codes, your order will be automatically updated with credit to the value of the voucher(s). If there's any balance to pay, you can use a debit or credit card in the usual way.
Gift vouchers have no expiry date; please note this is different to our gift card policy.
Gift vouchers can only be used once, and they cannot be used in our shops once the holographic panel has been scratched off. If your gift vouchers are accidentally damaged, contact our Customer Services team.
What if I don’t use the entire balance of my gift voucher when shopping online?
If you don't spend the full value of the voucher(s), the remaining credit will be stored in your johnlewis.com online account and can be used towards your next purchase on johnlewis.com.
What if I don’t use the entire balance of my gift voucher when in a shop?
If you are using a gift voucher in store and the total order value is less than the value of the gift voucher, any balance remaining will be redeemed in cash or vouchers to the equivalent value.
Can I use my gift voucher over the telephone?
Yes, gift vouchers can be redeemed for orders placed over the telephone. We will simply ask you for the 10-digit serial number on the bottom right of the voucher, and the 7-character online security code underneath the scratch-off panel.
Gift voucher exclusions
Can I use my John Lewis vouchers for all goods?
You can exchange John Lewis Partnership gift vouchers for goods in all John Lewis & Partners and Waitrose & Partners shops, and use them to purchase online or over the phone at johnlewis.com. You may not use gift vouchers for John Lewis Home Solutions, magazine subscriptions, gift cards, photo printing or software downloads on johnlewis.com.
You may not use gift vouchers to discharge indebtedness on any account or credit card issued by John Lewis PLC, Waitrose Ltd, or John Lewis Financial Services Ltd, nor use them for the purchase either directly or indirectly of any financial product or service, including John Lewis gift cards or e-gift cards.
What if my gift voucher is damaged?
Once you have scratched off the panel, the gift voucher cannot be redeemed in any of our shops. If the security code has already been used when shopping online or over the telephone at johnlewis.com, the voucher will be void. If your gift vouchers become accidentally damaged, please contact Customer Services on 03456 049 049.

Can I exchange my gift vouchers for cash?
You cannot exchange gift vouchers for cash.

Can John Lewis vouchers be used in Waitrose?
Yes, you can pay by John Lewis vouchers in Waitrose shops.
Coupons, discounts and promotional discount codes offered by johnlewis.com are valid only for use as part of a purchase made via johnlewis.com, unless otherwise stated. Such promotional discounts are not valid for use as part of a purchase in John Lewis & Partners shops, or for phone orders.
Returning an item purchased with a gift voucher
If you have to return goods you have purchased online using gift vouchers, then in most instances we will credit your online shopping account. You may also return online orders to any John Lewis & Partners shop. If you have your receipt, we will refund you with cash, but if you don’t, your refund will be credited to a gift card. This doesn't affect your statutory rights.
