How to style a sofa

How to style your sofa

Make the couch the star of your living room with our styling ideas

The sofa is usually the living room centrepiece, which means it deserves some attention. The easiest solution? Cushions and throws, which provide endless styling possiblities. Whether you’re into simple Scandi styles or prefer bold and bright, there’s something for everyone.

How do you style your sofa?

Think about how you might get dressed: plain, darker colours on the bottom, more eye-catching patterns and lighter shades on the top. Do the same with your cushions: build from the back with big, squishy, darker cushions and pull your brightest and boldest out to the front.

Textures add instant comfort and we’re big fans of velvet – plus some light cashmere or wool throws and a good weighted blanket in winter. Even when the weather is warmer, draping these along the back of your sofa or popping them over the arm makes it feel luxurious.

Like anything to do with interiors, this is meant to be fun. Consider the outcome and how it will look with your walls, the design of the rest of your room and your home in general. But there are no hard and fast rules here – if you like something, try it.
