SEND OUT THE INVITES, LIGHT THE CANDLES AND WHEEL OUT THE DRINKS TROLLEY – YOUR LIVING ROOM IS THE NEW PARTY DESTINATION

Living rooms are becoming the place for grown-up entertaining. Inspired by design hotels and bars, we’ve brought a little of that glamour into the living room to create a space that’s chic and indulgent. This is the perfect place to entertain friends in style and flex those cocktail-making skills. This space brings together luxe finishes, reflective surfaces and sumptuous fabrics, all teamed with atmospheric lighting for the perfect night in with friends.

INDULGENT FINISHES

This living room uses hotel-style luxe finishes, which will elevate an existing scheme into something really special. Make your sofa the star by choosing a design in a sumptuous velvet that you’ll love for years to come, like the new John Lewis & Partners + Swoon Radley sofa in Wildwood Green Velvet. For more casual seating, introduce a pouffe or two, before dressing your sofa and armchairs with velvet and silk cushions. Dark woods add to this dramatic look, so introduce side tables and cabinets in rich walnut.

If you love to host, this is the room for you. Think cocktails and canapés – there’s more than a touch of glamour here

MOOD LIGHTING

You want your guests to feel relaxed, but still be able to see who they’re chatting to and where they’ve left their cocktail. Dim the lights or go for table and floor lamps instead of harsh overhead lighting. Candlelight adds a warming glow. Vary the height of your candles by mixing tall candlesticks and votives in light-reflective brass and metallic finishes. Above the table, hang a pendant light – low enough to cast a soft glow, but not so much that it blocks the flow of conversation.

This is your chance to create an opulent, dramatic dinner-party setting, expressing your creativity and personality

MIX IT UP

For a real touch of glamour, treat your guests to a cocktail or two from a smart bar trolley. Display your favourite spirits and mixers, not forgetting delicious non-alcoholic options for non-drinkers. Sparkling glassware, shiny bar tools and designer accessories will make your trolley – or sideboard – the hero of your entertaining space.
