What can you expect?
How does it work?
Step 1: Choose your flooring
Browse our samples online or visit your local John Lewis & Partners where our flooring experts can give you advice. You can also read our Carpets and Hard Flooring Buying Guides for more information, and if this is part of a bigger project, our Home Design stylists will also be happy to help you put a scheme together
Step 2: Book a free home appointment
Once you’ve chosen your carpet, vinyl or hard flooring, book a free at-home appointment below.
Step 3: Your estimate
Our estimator will usually visit within 5 days, and should be able to provide a no-obligation quote on the spot that includes:
Your flooring choice & fitting
Any floor preparation
Any additional services, including clearing and replacing rooms of furniture, taking up and disposing of your old flooring.
Step 4: Fitting
You can choose to fit your new flooring yourself or we will book a convenient time for one of our approved fitters to carry out the work.
Step 5: Enjoy
Once work is complete, your room will be left tidy so you can start enjoying your beautiful new space. For added peace of mind, all our ranges come with a 2-year installation guarantee.
Do you offer estimating appointments in the evening and weekends?
Yes, but not nationwide, so please ask in store or use the online booking system to view availability.
How long will the appointment take?
Appointments will vary depending on the product and the number of rooms, but our online booking tool will give you a good indication.
Why do I need to select products and materials before the appointment?
In order for the estimator to provide an accurate estimate we need to ensure you have narrowed down your choice to 2-3 options at most.
Why do you need the area to be ready for fitting before my appointment?
If you are planning any building or redecoration work, any changes could affect the measurements and final cost. Skirting boards and flooring should be in place for example.
How can I cancel or amend my appointment?
Call the shop which arranged your appointment or, if you booked online, login to “My account” and go to “Your Appointments.” We don’t charge a cancellation fee, but would appreciate as much notice as possible.
How will you confirm the appointment?
You’ll receive a confirmation email and/or text once you’ve booked your appointment. You’ll then receive a text reminder two days before and a call from the estimator on the day.
How do I order flooring samples?
Can you help me in getting my room ready for fitting, like moving furniture and removing old flooring?
Yes, just let the Estimator know. If we are moving furniture, please ensure that any contents are cleared prior to the fitting date. Unfortunately, we can’t disconnect or reconnect electrical items. We ensure all products are disposed of in an environmentally-responsible way.
Can you trim doors?
Yes, just let the Estimator know. Please note we cannot ease the following doors: fire doors, hollow doors, front doors and generally any door leading outside your property
Can you fit products purchased elsewhere?
Services are only available when you’ve purchased the products from John Lewis & Partners and through an estimator.
How does Never Knowingly Undersold apply to fitting or installation services?
We will consider lowering the combined price of the product and the service, but only if a competitor’s installation service is comparable in terms of quality. We compare the scope of the workmanship, the quality of the materials used, the timescale for completing the work and the accreditation of the fitters.
What is the installation guarantee?
We carefully select and approve the third party Fitters we work with by assessing their previous installations, experience and accreditation. We’ll guarantee the work carried out by our Fitters for 2 years, giving you complete peace of mind.
