60-Night Mattress Trial

Are you looking for a mattress that will suit your unique comfort needs? We recommend first trying it in one of our shops and also reading our mattress buying guide before making a purchase.

However, if you find your new mattress isn’t comfortable for whatever reason, for your peace of mind we offer a 60-Night Sleep Comfort Trial period on selected John Lewis mattresses, where you can get an exchange for a new model.


In order to qualify, you’ll need to purchase a mattress protector in the same transaction as your original mattress for hygiene reasons. We recommend sleeping on your new mattress for at least 30 nights to adapt to its feel and tension. There will be a £29.95 collection and recycling fee so that we can responsibility recycle the exchanged mattress.


If you feel you’ve made the wrong choice and want to exchange your mattress, please visit your nearest shop with your original receipt for the best advice on a different choice and they will help you choose a new mattress and organise the exchange.

Terms & Conditions

1. For Mattresses bought from 12th April 2021, our 60-Night Sleep Comfort Trial starts on the date of delivery and an exchange can be made within 60 nights. If you need to exchange your mattress, please visit your nearest shop, spending time reselecting a more suitable mattress as you are only permitted one exchange. If you are unable to visit a shop contact Furniture Aftercare. Please provide your original transaction information, including the details of your mattress protector.
2. Customers are entitled to an exchange, with a refund of the difference if you choose a cheaper model. Or, you can pay the difference if you choose a more expensive model. Full refunds are not accepted unless faulty.
3. For hygiene reasons, you must buy a mattress protector (the same size as the mattress) in the same transaction as your new mattress. For the trial to be valid, the mattress protector must be used with the new mattress. Failure to provide proof of a mattress protector being purchased will invalidate the trial.  Our normal returns policy applies to mattress protectors and they are non-refundable once used. The mattress must be in perfect condition when collected. We reserve the right to refuse an exchange if a mattress protector hasn’t been used or the product is marked or soiled.
4. The offer is available on all John Lewis mattresses, excluding John Lewis ANYDAY, John Lewis Open Spring  and divan frames. The offer is valid across all mattress sizes, as well as bespoke made to order products. The offer is not valid on ex-shop floor display models.
5. Only one exchange per household or delivery address is allowed
6. Delivery must be to the same address as the first sale
7. The offer is available when we can verify the purchase and delivery date. The trial starts on the day the mattress is delivered.
8. This does not affect other Sleep Trials offered by brands
9. There is a customer collection and recycling fee of £29.95 for the returned mattress so that we can responsibly recycle the exchanged mattress
10. We recommend a minimum of 30 night's sleep on the mattress to allow it to settle

How do I know how many days are left on my trial?

The 60 night trial starts on the day your mattress was delivered. To check this, review your order confirmation email for the original delivery date.

Does the 60 night trial apply to all products?

We offer the trial on all John Lewis mattresses, excluding John Lewis Anyday, John Lewis Open Spring and ex-shop floor display models. Brands in some instances run their own sleep trials.

Do I have to keep the mattress for a minimum amount of time?

You have a full 60 nights starting from the day of delivery. We do recommend that you give your John Lewis mattress at least 30 nights to allow for settlement as all new mattress can feel a bit different at first.

Do I still qualify for the 60 night trial if I added Protect+

If you took out a Protect+ policy and want to exchange your mattress then this is possible - we will apply the policy to your exchange.

How does the 60-night trial work?

Our 60 night trial applies to all John Lewis mattresses, excluding John Lewis Anyday, John Lewis Open Spring, ex-shop floor display models and reduce to clear. This means that if you want to exchange your mattress within 60 nights from delivery you can make a different choice.

For hygiene reasons, you needed to have purchased a new mattress protector in the same transaction.  

We recommend at least 30 days to allow for settlement of your new mattress. You must have used your mattress protector for it to be exchanged.  

So that we can offer the best advice on a different mattress and for you to try an alternative choice most suited for your comfort needs, please visit your nearest store with your original receipt and delivery confirmation, where one of our Sleep partners would be happy to offer the best advice on a different mattress more suited to you.  

Our John Lewis Partners will organise an exchange to your new choice and collection of your old mattress. They will take payment of the difference if you select an upgrade, or refund the difference if you select a cheaper mattress. They will also take payment of £29.95 recycling fee. If you originally purchased online, please note that the payment will be taken by a your chip and pin card, put onto a John Lewis gift card and then processed (not taken out until we get an update from the OCCO team).

Once the return is sorted we'll organise our delivery drivers to collect your old mattress and deliver your new one at the same time. We will remove the mattress from your home and recycle it responsibly.

Does the mattress need to be protected during the trial?

Yes, you need to use a new mattress protector purchased in the original transaction to qualify. This is to ensure your hygiene and the safety of our delivery drivers upon collection. A mattress protector is an essential to keep your mattress fresh and lasting longer, see our buying guide here

How do I organise an exchange?

So we can offer you the best alternative choice we recommend you visit our nearest shop to your delivery address. A friendly Sleep Partner will assist you in choosing the best alternative for your sleep and comfort needs – they will also process the collection and delivery for you.
