The homegrown heroes that should be on your radar

When it comes to menswear, there’s no doubt that Britain has produced some of the most celebrated brands in the world. And, with increasing focus on sustainability, buying clothing made closer to home seems like a step in the right direction. From renowned names such as Barbour to newer and lesser-known designers, there’s something for every man and every budget, starting with these.

Wax London Best of British Brands

Wax London

Founded in 2015, London-based Wax London is a premium brand with sustainability at its core. Focused on the idea of bringing manufacturing back to the UK and championing local craftsmanship, the majority of the brand’s outerwear is crafted in London. Wax London recently launched its pre-collection exclusively with John Lewis & Partners which, as well as including a beautiful heritage jacket created in collaboration with Harris Tweed, focuses on revamping everyday basics like outerwear, knitwear, shirts and trousers.

Albam Utility Best of British Brands

Albam Utility

Manchester-founded Albam was set up in 2006 as an independent menswear brand, working with skilled artisans around the world to create timeless, understated and utilitarian designs. Albam Utility, the brand’s newest capsule collection, has been created to withstand the rigours of daily life and balance out the need for both style and function. Pick from structured overshirts, loose-fitting cotton trousers and statement accessories in strong, standout colours.

It's All Good Folk Best of British Brands

It’s All Good Folk

It’s All Good Folk was born out of an exclusive partnership between John Lewis & Partners and cult menswear label Folk, creating beautifully designed products based on a sustainable and affordable ethos. The first collection, which launched in summer 2019, emphasised the story behind the materials, the manufacturing and the craftsmanship of each product. From cold-weather accessories to outerwear designed to go the distance, all fabrics throughout the range are made from either organic or sustainable cotton, recycled nylon or mixed fibre.

Barbour Best of British Brands

Barbour

With 125 years of traditional heritage under their belt, there are few more distinguished British brands than Barbour. Understanding the importance of keeping one eye on the past while moving things forward, the brand uses its design and manufacturing know-how to rework traditional staples and make it worthy of the modern man’s wardrobe. From everyday accessories to coats made for the countryside and beyond, each Barbour piece has guaranteed longevity when it comes to both style and structure.

Far Afield Best of British

Far Afield

Although Far Afield was founded in the UK, it lives up to its namesake by being inspired by colours and textures from all over the world. Founded by two brothers in Brighton in 2014, the brand focuses on creating contemporary and distinctive menswear with a retro aesthetic and sustainable credentials. By both leaning into trends – namely utility for this season – and focusing on timeless designs, Far Afield creates everyday pieces with an edge. From workwear-inspired gilets to patterned shirts, there’s something for every kind of man.
