Airplane mode: travel outfit ideas

Flight outfits and suitcases in front of an orange cloth with rocks in the background

Easy ways to upgrade your flight outfit so that you look and feel first class, even if your seat isn’t...

When you’re getting ready to jet off on holiday, planning your plane outfit is often low on the checklist (or a complete afterthought). But it’s actually super important – there’s nothing worse than being uncomfortable, constricted or cold.

What makes the best travel outfit? Comfort is key. Think soft underwear, relaxed co-ord sets, and tops in natural fabrics that can be peeled off, depending on temperature changes.

Trousers that flex are also a big win, especially if they can be incorporated into your holiday wardrobe. Tailored joggers are perfect as they’re lightweight and comfy yet stylish. Avoid jumpsuits which can be tricky to take off in a tiny toilet.

Comfy shoes you can easily slip on and off are essential. Either a classic pair of trainers, or simple sliders or sandals - but don’t forget to pop some warm socks in your handbag as it can get freezing at 30,000 feet. And your sunnies to hide tired eyes upon arrival.

Here are the cosy, comfortable essentials that nail jetset style.

Which suitcase is best?

A crossbody bag for the essentials (passport, phone, headphones) makes going through security a breeze, but beyond that think carefully about your luggage needs. Check the dimensions of your allowance, and where possible choose lightweight options so the bag itself isn’t weighing you down. From cabin cases to larger suitcases, here are four of the best:
