On trial: Dior Sauvage Eau Forte
2024’s most talked about scent is a power move in fragrance form
What is Dior Sauvage Eau Forte?
The latest launch from the Dior Sauvage fragrance family (Sauvage Eau de Toilette is a brand bestseller), Sauvage Eau Forte redefines freshness. For this new fragrance, the iconic freshness of Sauvage is intensified by the power of water with a powerful trail. The result? A striking blend of cold spices and bleached lavender, deepened by the strength of musky woods.
Fragrance family: aromatic fougère
Scent type: woody/spicy
Distinctive feature: water-based
What makes Dior Sauvage Eau Forte special?
Sauvage Eau Forte is the very first high-concentration men’s composition in a water-based formula, free of alcohol, and exclusive to Dior. Perfume Creation Director Francis Kurkdjian redefined the signature freshness of Sauvage by using water in its formula to create a new olfactory sensation, and bridging the freshness of an eau de toilette with the power of a parfum. By swapping alcohol for water, Kurkdjian amplified the spicy lavender fougère, alongside the purity of a water-base.
How is it made?
Using a revolutionary high-pressure nano-emulsion technique. This unique aqueous formula is blended with a very powerful oily fragrance concentrate. The result? A highly concentrated water with a characteristic milky colour.
How does it work?
Rather than striking the senses and then fading after a few minutes, the spices are ‘saturated’ with water, so develop in unexpected ways.
“To convey the power of water, I reinvented signature freshness of Sauvage, moving away from the traditional citrus notes of lemon and bergamot to capitalise on the vibrant freshness of cold spices. Thanks to the alcohol-free formula, I was able to stretch this freshness to the extreme. Sauvage Eau Forte pushes the boundaries of freshness.”
Where does Sauvage Eau Forte fit in the Dior Sauvage fragrance family?
Sauvage is a range of powerful scents inspired by the wilderness. Sauvage Eau Forte is the new alcohol-free fragrance with spicy freshness. Sauvage Eau de Toilette is one of the most popular men's fragrances of all time, topping bestseller lists year after year – an icon in fragrance form. The Eau de Parfum is sensual, mysterious and rich, while the Parfum is vibrant and fierce. The Elixir is rare and intoxicating (as well as incredibly popular).
How is Dior Sauvage Eau Forte presented?
It's housed in the signature Sauvage blue glass bottle, with an intense ombré shading from black to clear. The white formula reveals itself like tumultuous water.
What does Dior Sauvage Eau Forte smell like?
First spray:
Powerful, spicy/woody musk
On my skin:
The milky formula melts into the skin and leaves a comforting lavender kick
After three hours:
Fresh yet subtle, with a lingering warm spice skin-scent trail
How does Dior Sauvage Eau Forte make me feel?
Scent is personal, but this undeniably fresh fragrance is impossible not to love. A standout scent that's made to last, Sauvage Eau Forte is invigorating, imbuing confidence and power as it blends with the skin. I’ll be wearing it for late summer evenings, date nights, mate nights and work meetings.
The verdict: is Dior Sauvage Eau Forte worth it?
The latest in a long line up of Sauvage fragrance family overachievers (Sauvage Eau de Toilette is one of the most iconic fragrances of the 21st Century), Eau Forte has some pretty big boots to fill.
And yet Sauvage Eau Forte isn’t interested in competing with the parfums and elixirs. This is a one-of-a-kind, innovative, striking, chameleon of a fragrance. Eau Forte plays by its own rules to delight and inspire.
Yes, this long-lasting, wide reaching, fresh-and-spicy, alcohol-free-scent is a power move in fragrance form. Douse yourself in Dior and wait for the compliments to roll in.
