Heats in winter, cools in summer, purifies all year round…enter Dyson’s top new air purifier

Our Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool HP1 Review

Do you really need an air purifier? Most likely, yes. For the uninitiated, Dyson’s air purifiers work by pulling air through a HEPA filter, which captures 99.5% of microscopic pollutants as small as 0.1 microns (think pollen, dust and pet hair).

The Purifier Hot+Cool HP1 has new air purifying technology, taking it one step further. The Activated Carbon Filter is enriched with Tris, a chemical that captures odours, gaseous particles, VOCs and oxidising gases such as NO2. Oh, and it can heat and cool the room.

What is the Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool HP1?

First and foremost, it’s an air purifier.  Dyson’s Air Multiplier™ technology automatically draws in common household pollutants, such as dust, pet hair, bacteria and mould, and pushes out a purified airflow. It also has the functionality to push out cold and hot air, making it an incredibly versatile investment for all seasons.

What does the Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool HP1 come with?

In the box you’ll find the purifier, HEPA filter and a clever magnetic remote control you can use for adjusting the temperature, speed, oscillation and modes (including night mode). It’s honestly really easy to set up; the filter is included, so all you have to do is plug it in!

What makes the Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool HP1 special?

Unlike other models, you can monitor your home’s air quality from the MyDyson™ app. Just scan the QR code if you want to connect your air purifier to the app for how-to guides and air-quality updates (that said, you don’t have to do this).

What’s more, this air purifier can evenly heat or cool the room – and fast. In summer it cools quickly and quietly, projecting powerful airflow to cool you down, and in winter, the air is warm. So impressive.

Can you sleep with an air purifier on?

Yes, and Dyson recommends it, as it cleans the air by removing the pollutants, allergens and odours that can disrupt sleep. Of course, Dyson has thought of everything, and you can select "night mode" – which means it purifies, cools or heats using the quietest setting and a dimmed display.

Can I leave my Dyson air purifier on all the time?

Yes, Dyson purifiers are at their best when left switched on in auto-mode. This means your purifier will constantly monitor your air quality, and automatically sense and capture pollutants.

Where is the best place to put the Dyson air purifier?

Put simply, place it near the most likely source of indoor air pollution. That said, it’s only suitable for well-insulated spaces and works best in closed rooms, like an office or kitchen. It needs to be placed at least six inches from walls – but don’t put it next to open windows, doors or directly next to a radiator.

Is the Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool HP1 worth it?

There’s no denying the Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool HP1 does take up space (I live in a flat and definitely notice its presence), and you have to factor in replacing the filter every 12 months (you’ll be notified via the MyDyson™ app or LCD screen when it’s time to replace it).

Plus it costs £549.99, so is by no means an impulse buy. But it’s an essential buy. What’s more important than breathing clean air? Especially now the cooler days and darker nights mean we’re closing the windows, upping the home cooking, burning candles and turning the radiator on. All of these things can affect the air quality in your house, and it’s just really useful to keep tabs on your indoor air quality, and what may be affecting it. An air purifier is not a nice-to-have, it’s an essential home investment.
