Dyson’s first travel-sized hair tool means you don’t have to leave your full hair routine at home when you’re on the go
Our Dyson Supersonic™ Travel Hair Dryer review
When it comes to travel, our favourite beauty brands are making minis so we don’t have to compromise on our skincare routines, but as far as our haircare goes, well… Holiday hair dryers are notorious for being lacklustre, somehow managing to leave hair a frizzy mess. While I like my hair type – it’s thick with a natural body and slightly coarse texture – to tame it into a smooth, straight style does require some effort. And, as I travel a lot for work, I can confirm that hotel hair dryers are most definitely not up to the job. But here is Dyson, a leader in the innovation space, with its new travel hair dryer – a first for the brand. Is this the missing piece of the travelling puzzle? Let’s find out.
What is the Dyson Supersonic™ Travel Hair Dryer?
In short, it’s the miniature version of the original Supersonic™; the travel model is about a third smaller, measuring W7.1 x D22.2 x H6.8cm (the full-size Supersonic is W9.8 x D28.8 x H7.7cm). The travel hair dryer has been designed with three heat settings, two speed settings and a cool shot button, all of which is considerably better than other travel hair dryers. It also weighs just 0.33kg. These dinky dimensions means it’s the perfect travelling companion – for hold luggage when you’re off to sun-kissed shores, or a smaller bag for a weekend away.
What makes the Dyson Supersonic™ Travel Hair Dryer special?
I’m Canadian and also travel a lot for work, so I’m very happy to share that the dryer features universal voltage compatibility (110-240V) – meaning you’ll get the same quality performance, no matter where you are in the world.
When it comes to that performance, this piece of kit is ultra lightweight but powerful, so while it’s been designed for travel, it can absolutely replace your home hair dryer too. It dried my hair quickly and thoroughly enough for a straightening iron. As someone who washes their hair irregularly and often opts to go to a blow-dry bar, I was pretty happy with the job I did – my hair was smooth, straight and shiny, and I believe the cold blast really helped to achieve this.
What does the Dyson Supersonic™ Travel Hair Dryer come with?
It comes with one styling concentrator attachment but, as it’s magnetic, you can mix and match with your existing Dyson Supersonic™ or Dyson Supersonic Nural™ attachments (a great idea). The drawbacks? I can only think of two. I love keeping my tech in pristine condition, and I was surprised it didn’t come with a dust bag and cable tie. And it surprised me that it was not designed with interchangeable power adaptors (basically, you have to remember to pack a wall adaptor).
Is the Dyson Supersonic™ Travel Hair Dryer actually worth it?
I was genuinely impressed that you can achieve a salon finish on holiday with this petite hair dryer. It has made a home for itself in my suitcase and will be travelling with me – at all times – for the foreseeable future. Don’t let the size fool you; this travel hair dryer performs wonderfully. It can absolutely do as good a job as your regular hair dryer, whether at home or away.
