Dyson’s most powerful cordless vacuum cleaner is here to make housework as easy as possible

Our Dyson V16 Piston Animal Submarine™ Cordless Wet And Dry Vacuum Review

Am I a clean freak? Well, I do love to clean, so…possibly. But, even if you don’t, Dyson’s new V16 Piston Animal vacuum promises the most convenient cleaning experience yet. Think: a cleaner head that detangles even the longest hair, the most powerful motor for serious suction, and also a head that mops the floor. Yes, really. Dyson’s cordless vacuums have become a must-have in homes, so let’s see if the brand’s most powerful to date is worth the investment and the upgrade.

What is the Dyson V16 Piston Animal Submarine™ Cordless Vacuum?

It’s Dyson’s most powerful anti-tangle cordless vacuum cleaner ever. Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, it has a wet cleaner head and can wash hard floors.

What does the Dyson V16 Piston Animal Submarine™ Cordless Vacuum come with?

In the box you’ll find the main All Floor Cones™ Sense cleaner head (with purple and red cones), along with three attachments: a smaller anti-tangle head, which is ideal for cleaning pet hair off beds and sofas (see above), a long crevice tool and a combination tool with soft bristles for those hard-to-reach places. Plus there’s a charger and a wall dock to hang the vacuum.

You can click these attachments into the main gold wand or directly to the hand-held part of the vacuum, but – as the wand itself is designed with a directional nozzle – you can also vacuum hard-to-reach places without adding an attachment. Love.

There are three modes: Auto, Eco and Boost, and a suction control at the front of the main head has vents that open to allow larger debris to be picked up more easily. Finally, a built-in green laser shows up otherwise-invisible dust on hard flooring (not on carpets, because it would just show carpet fibre).

What makes the Dyson V16 Piston Animal Submarine™ Cordless Vacuum special?

I’ve got to start with the two-in-one cone head, which detangles even the longest hair (meaning no more pulling clumps out of brush bars) and is clever enough to detect what type of floor it’s on, adjusting the power and therefore saving battery life. With my current vacuum I have to change the attachment between wooden floors and carpets, so I really love this functionality.

Next up, emptying the CleanCompaktor™ bin is incredibly simple and satisfying. Where previous cordless vacuums have required me to shake the bin to release all the dust and debris, with the new Dyson you simply click the grey button to open the hatch, then use the red lever to push it all out. And it can hold up to 30 days’ worth of debris.

Lastly, this is the fastest Dyson motor that exists – the new Dyson Hyperdymium™ 900W motor is 50% more power dense than its predecessor, and the five-stage HEPA filtration system captures 99.99% of particles as small as 0.1 microns (the size of allergens, bacteria and viruses). So impressive.

Can the Dyson V16 Piston Animal Submarine™ Cordless Vacuum wash the floor?

In short, yes! You can have freshly washed floors with your Dyson vacuum. It’s rare to find a model that can do both, without compromising on the vacuum design itself, but Dyson has done it.

The upgraded Submarine™ 2.0 cleaner head has a microfibre roller to remove spills from hard floors, plus it has an adjustable hydration mode to tackle stubborn stains. Let’s just say, I’ve now ditched my mop in favour of the do-it-all Dyson.

Is the Dyson V16 Piston Animal Submarine™ Cordless Vacuum worth it?

Ultimately, this is a seriously impressive piece of technology that cleans and mops in one – and converts to a handheld vacuum. I love the swivel design (it manoeuvres really well) and the edge cleaning is incredible. Plus, it provides up to 70 minutes of clean time before you need to charge it (Dyson’s longest run time in a cordless vacuum).

The drawbacks? Only one. Call me old-fashioned, but I would still like a nice recyclable paper how-to guide, rather than relying solely on the MyDyson™ app for instruction.

All in all, this detail-orientated Dyson made for the best cleaning experience I’ve ever had.
