Inspired by the constantly adapting nature of modern workshops, David Irwin's lightweight Narin folding chair is easy to collapse and move around, and can be stored in condensed stacks that occupy minimal space.

The elegant design features a smooth sweeping transition from the turned oak legs into the formed backrest, which also doubles as the mount for the pivot from where the back leg rotates. The seat and back are formed from layered birch ply and oak veneer, with an oiled finish and stainless steel fixings. The fixings contained on the underside of the chair slide along the grooves within the back legs to present a graceful silhouette with clean flowing lines, so the chair looks as good folded away for storage as it does when open and in use.

David Irwin is a British Industrial Design Studio driven by a desire to assign purpose to both traditional and contemporary manufacturing processes. Originally from Northern Ireland, where he got his first taste of wood working in his father’s amateur workshop, David went on to study at Northumbria University. In 2007 David’s final year project, a steam-bent timber frame chair, was awarded the New Designers Peter Walker Award for innovation in furniture design. The chair went on to become part of Habitat's furniture collection, giving David his first taste of the manufacture and retail process.
