Did you know that John Lewis keeps an archive of all the designs and prints that we've used in the nearly 160 years we have been in existence? This treasure trove is based in Odney, Berkshire and our designers will regularly delve into it for inspiration, emerging days later, bleary-eyed but full of ideas. The illustrative paisley and floral print on this dress is inspired by an archival find from 1911, but it nods to the future too in the way it's manufactured.

It's made in a loose fit with a keyhole detail at the back and the fluid fabric drapes beautifully. It's finished with shirred cuffs and elasticated elbow-length sleeves which can be pushed up to form a shorter, more puffed sleeve, if you prefer. It seems the chic shall inherit the earth after all.
