Our customers, our communities and the Partners in our business are our priority. That’s why we’re continually monitoring the guidelines and advice provided by the UK Government and Public Health England. As such, we have made the decision to temporarily stop our in-store and in-home Technology Services. For troubleshooting or after-sales queries, please call 03301 230 106 and we will be able to help you.

Our specialist Partners in the Technology department (available in most shops), are here to take the hassle out of setting up your new tablet, smart watch or fitness tracker. With smartphone, laptop or desktop set ups, we can transfer data from your existing device if you are upgrading. We also offer support services for existing devices to ensure they are working at their best. Laptop or desktop set pp and support services are also available in your home and are carried by an approved local supplier.

After purchasing a new technology product, our Technical Support team can assist and take the hassle out of setting up the device for you, meaning when you take your new tech away it will be ready to use straightaway.

WHAT WE’LL DO

  • Set up a user account, creating an initial Passcode access
  • Installation of any available operating system updates
  • Download historic apps, if applicable
  • Log into a maximum of 2 existing accounts on the relevant apps, for example email or music accounts
  • 15-minute demonstration of a new device with a Technical Support Partner, if required -  camera, touch ID access, pre-installed apps, sharing files with other tablets, using a tablet with other devices, security and privacy settings

  • Sync with 1 compatible device, for example smartphone, tablet or laptop, and download app, if applicable
  • 15-minute demonstration of the new device with a Technical Support Partner, if required - inputting wellbeing details, features and benefits of using a smartwatch with a synced device eg. smartphone

For the data transfer from an existing laptop or desktop:

  • Please bring your current laptop or PC to transfer the data across. We do offer an In Home Premium Set Up, which includes data transfer, if bringing in existing device is not suitable. An In Home Service can be arranged through your local John Lewis & Partners, or by calling 03301 230 106 and the service will be completed by an approved local supplier
  • Please prepare the files/ data to be transferred and have them already organised into folders for clarity and ease
  • Data transfer is completed via a hard drive that is sold separately, or you can provide your own if storage is sufficient

 

Service duration can be up to 48 hours, depending on the quantity of the data being transferred, software updates and provision of correct passwords required. Our Technical Support Team will contact you when the service has been completed.

WHAT WE’LL DO

  • Full diagnostics scan of Windows desktop or laptop for any software operating concerns using Norton Optimisation and Repair Module tool  
  • Remove any software issues - such as  Viruses/ Malware/ Adware/ Spyware/ Trojans
  • Check your PC’s hardware to ensure it is working efficiently
  • Implement default settings
  • Provide a comparison summary between Pre-Scan and Post-Scan reports to compare PC Health Score

WHAT WE’LL DO

  • Back up all system and data files from an existing tablet, laptop or desktop to an external hard drive, which is sold separately

  • This service may be recommended prior to a laptop or desktop being sent away for a repair, to ensure no valuable data is impacted during other onging support services
  • If this service is completed before being sent away for a repair, we will send the goods directly to the repair agent once the back up has been completed
  • A data back up can be completed on desktops, laptops or tablets that have not been purchased from John Lewis & Partners
  • Data backup is completed via a hard drive that is sold separately, or you can provide your own if storage is sufficient

Data cleanse

Data Cleanse Service

WHAT WE’LL DO

All personal data securely wiped from 1 device. This service is available on laptops , desktops, smartphones and tablets.

We'll overwrite old data so it can no longer be retrieved. This will prepare your device by permanently removing all personal data, ahead of recycling, gifting or trading in.

  • A data cleanse service may be completed on laptop, desktop, smartphone or tablets that have not been purchased from John Lewis & Partners 
  • Please bring in your existing device to your local shop to have the service completed
  • For IOS mobile device, please turn off Find My iPhone, if enabled
  • For Android mobile devices, please remove SD Card
  • Please bring the device in to your local  shop to to complete this service with at least 15% battery charge


Service duration can be up to 30 minutes for IOS and Android mobile devices. For tablets, laptops or desktops, the service can take up to 48 hours depending on the quantity of the data to be erased from the device. Our Technical Support Team will contact you when the service has been completed.

EASY FIXES

If the worst should happen, no matter how well you look after your device, we’ll work to help get your valuable data retrieved and Smartphone screens replaced. These services can be completed for devices out of warranty or if they have not been purchased from John Lewis & Partners, to help get things back on track.

WHAT WE’LL DO

  • Rescue or retrieve lost personal data and store onto a hard drive, sold separately. 
  • Standard Data Recovery service is for data recoverable using various advanced software tools and where no mechanical, or physical intervention is required to the device.
  • Once our approved servicer has received and assessed your device, they may advise that there is more extensive damage to the device and would qualify for the Advanced Data Recovery instead, which you will be consulted on before continuing with the service.
  • Data Recovery Service is available for the following products, that may or may not have been purchased from John Lewis & Partners:

This includes advanced intrusive techniques carried out in an approved clean lab facility by our approved servicer.

We offer 3 computer installation services, each one is carried out in your home when we deliver your product.

QUICK SET UP

You can also can book an In Home Laptop or Desktop Set Up service, where a time slot can be arranged to get your new device up and running and linked up to your home network. There are also options to include a data transfer from an existing PC, rather than bringing into a John Lewis & Partners shop. These services are completed by an approved local supplier who will call on the morning that the service is booked for to confirm arrival time.
