The Port of Leith Distillery La Garde Ecossaise Brut Champagne, 75cl

La Garde Ecossaise is the proprietary Champagne brand of the Leith Export Company. Leith was Scotland’s gateway to the world for centuries and the major entry point for wines and spirits from France. This Champagne celebrates that historic trade, and the historic friendship between Scotland and France, with an exemplary wine that provides a local Scottish provenance to one of the most quintessentially French products of them all.

Tasting notes:

The wine has a classic light yellow colour. On the nose, there are aromas of white fruits like peach and apricot, with a gentle citrus note. On the palate, the delicate ripe stone fruits are there again, with a hint of green apple and the luxurious brioche character that defines superlative Champagne.

Scotland’s famous "Auld Alliance" with France was forged through centuries of shared values and strategic interests. In the 1420s, 6,000 Scottish soldiers, the flower of Scotland’s youth, arrived in La Rochelle to fight with the french King Charles VII against the English. Some of them would go on to fight with Joan of Arc, but most perished in the battle of Verneuil in 1424.
