The Arran tray was designed by Enzo Mari for Danese in Milan in 1961. It was reintroduced into production by Alessi in 1997 as a testament to a significant era of modern Italian design. Characterised by sharp, almost brutal folds of a sheet, the design expresses an honest, industrial style that enhances the beauty of polished stainless steel.
In 2025, Enzo Mari's Arran tray joined the Archivio collection taken from the Alessi catalogue and based on designs kept in the Alessi Museum, established in 1998.
Born in 1932 in the province of Novara, Enzo Mari began his work with research into visual perception and later turned his attention to children's games, graphics, design and architecture. The five-time Compasso d'Oro award winner has been described as "the critical conscience of design" and was regarded as one of the leading theorists in this field. His works are exhibited in the world's leading art and design museums. He worked with leading design companies and developed some of his most popular and radical designs for Alessi.
