A detail of the Creation of Adam ('Creazione di Adamo' in Italian) fresco painting by Italian Renaissance artist Michelangelo Buonarroti (Italian, 1475-1564). This famous image forms part of the Sistine Chapel's ceiling in the Vatican, Rome, painted circa 1508-1512. It illustrates the biblical creation narrative from the Book of Genesis in which God gives life to Adam, the first man.
