The essential must-haves to make life with your little one a bit easier
From the moment there’s a positive pregnancy test, expectant parents are bombarded with so much noise about what to buy that sometimes it can be hard to know what you need. Book a free nursery advice appointment for expert advice, and read on to discover the practical baby products that will help save your sanity.
Sleeping
A cotbed is a big ticket item, so choose one that will take you from your baby’s first night at home up until their toddler years. This design has removable railings to turn it into a toddler bed when the time comes. You will need many, many sheets and blankets – look for 100% cotton for comfort, durability and easy washing.
Changing and storage
Sleep-deprived days can be a blur of nappies, tears (you and them) and more nappies. Getting organised can make things feel easier; a changing table provides lots of practical storage, and baskets can transform your nursery into a highly functional space. The least glamorous buy – but one of the most important – is a nappy bin. Shnuggle is the only one that doesn't require special bin bags.
Comfort
If you live in a city, own a dog, or have a partner who speaks several decibels above normal range, a white noise machine helps ensure your baby’s slumber is undisturbed. A nursing chair will help make the nursery a calm, comfortable space for cuddles, and (parents’ favourite) Gro Egg is the night light that doubles up as a room thermometer.
Extra equipment
The BabyBjörn Baby Bouncer is a cult buy for a reason; not only is it a brilliant bit of kit that your baby will love from around six weeks, but it also buys you time to tidy/ have a rest. Plus, the entire cover comes off and is machine washable. A cot mobile and soft toys will help your baby feel happy and at ease in their nursery, which might just help you win the sleep battle…
