Three easy menswear trends to try now
If you’re in the market for a winter wardrobe update, here are the three trends you should try now
After a summer spent in loungewear and the upcoming winter filled with uncertainty, it’s important to tap into something that can make you feel good and look good, too. From functional outerwear and utility pieces built for any and every eventuality to a cheering hit of colour in the gloom, these are the trends worth trying out for the new season.
Outerwear takes a functional spin
From multi-pocket jackets to contemporary puffers and waterproof coats, super-functional outerwear should be at the centre of your autumnal wardrobe. Unpredictable weather patterns are the UK’s bread and butter, so the key is to try and balance style and practicality. Think about lightweight gilets that you can wear on top of a jumper or under a mac; chore jackets that you can layer up; tailored overcoats that look great paired with loungewear; puffers that can work with a suit. Whatever this winter brings, face it in style.
Bright colours – specifically red
It may seem counter-intuitive in the winter months, but now is the time to weave some much-needed colour into your outfits. Red is still the colour of now but it definitely takes confidence to wear. If you're not quite there yet, try breaking up your darker outfits with a hit of colour – in your socks, T-shirt or hat and scarf – in any tone that you know suits you. An important note: archaic clashing rules don't really apply anymore so don’t be afraid to ring the changes and mix and match colours.
Utility is here to stay
Utility dressing has dominated street style galleries and catwalk roundups for multiple seasons now and it doesn't look like that’s going to stop anytime soon. The function-focused trend is all about blending style and practicality, with multi-pocketed jackets, bucket hats, sturdy boots, heavy gilets, cargo trousers and more. It’s important to not go overboard, though, so pull out one utility piece to wear within each outfit: a chore shirt with jeans and T-shirt, for example.
