Home trends: bouclé furniture
The luxe, cloud-like textured material is here to stay
Bouclé, a once-retro fabric inspired by Chanel, is now a timeless and luxurious staple and an interior design trend that's not going anywhere.
The highly textured fabric has been a popular choice for clothes since the 1950s, when Coco Chanel unveiled her iconic jacket in ‘buckled tweed’ (aka bouclé).
Taken from the French word for "curled," bouclé is a textured fabric made of curled yarn fibres that create a plush feel. While it looks similar to fleece, it's much easier to clean and maintain, and although typically made using wool, the textured effect can also be created with cotton, polyester, or linen.
The material has made a roaring comeback in the world of interior design and it is a beautiful fabric for upholstery. Bouclé really lends itself to rounder, softer and larger furniture styles that are increasingly popular. That said, it is equally as impactful on small accents, like cushions.
If you're just as in love with this comfy-but-chic look as we are, here’s how to bring a touch of bouclé to your own home.
