A new era of heritage design
Spring is in the air and what better way to celebrate it than by immersing yourself in the world of florals? The second John Lewis x Sanderson homeware collection has an abundance of them, all with a bold, modern take for Spring/Summer ’26.
The new collection – a key edit of exclusive fresh floral patterns, inspired by a 1970s pattern book found in the archives – features a spin on a classic Sanderson heritage print, Rose & Peony. It’s a much bolder look, which aims to push the boundaries of design, encouraging you to think outside the box when it comes to playing with patterns in your home.
From bedsheets and cushions to a statement chair that will make your room, there’s something for every space.
But how do you introduce bold patterns to your own home? Sanderson’s Senior Stylist, Bronwyn Erskine, shares five steps to getting it right.
-
“Pattern on pattern can feel like a daunting design prospect, but the key is striking a good balance – it can work to fantastic effect.”
-
“Start with a cohesive colour palette – the style and scale can vary, but sticking to a unified colour scheme helps pull everything together beautifully. Steer clear of similar patterns that will compete with each other and, instead, opt for a variety of patterns and scales that complement each other to create a layered scheme.”
-
“Once you’ve chosen your pattern, don’t be afraid to use it in multiple places. For example, use the same design on a headboard and wallpaper to pull the room together.”
-
“When starting to add patterns, begin with the big pieces, such as wallpaper or a sofa, then medium-sized items like chairs and rugs, before moving onto layering cushions, throws and lighting. This really helps to build a scheme, down to the smallest detail.”
-
“Sanderson and John Lewis have worked together to make creating a maximalist feel in your home easy; all the elements have been designed to sit together. Take the inspirational imagery created by the two brands as a starting point to help build your confidence, then add and select your own personal elements and favourites from the collection.”
