THIS SEASON’S CONTEMPORARY LOOK IS RICH, LUXE, DESIGN FOCUSED AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, DOVETAILS PERFECTLY WITH OUR EVERYDAY LIVES

While cutting-edge minimalism has long been a favourite among interior designers, it's not always proved that attractive to the majority of us, as we are left wondering about warmth, texture, colour and – quite frankly – where to put our stuff. Thankfully, our new Urban Luxe trend combines must-have design and materials inspired by the chicest of modern hotels, with a big dose of real-life living. Here’s how to get the look at home…

Start with a neutral backdrop, avoiding anything too stark, such as crisp white, opting for warmer shades instead. Add texture to tiled floors with woven rugs, while wood structures, like screening and open-shelving, help create zones within one-space living.

Choose a contemporary sofa with clean lines – a style on slender metal legs helps keep the look on track, while a statement upholstered chair with generous curves provides visual contrast. Mix in plenty of texture, but keep to those more sumptious velvets and rib-effects, and look out for interesting and unusual techniques on velvet cushions and throws.

Take the look through to the dining space where relaxed, informal mealtimes has seen the dining table becoming the new hub of our homes. Choose a design that mixes materials, such as wood and metal, with plenty of artisan-style tableware.

In the bedroom, it's time to layer up the key colours of this look: forest green, auburn, blush and berry shades combine for a sophisticated, modern feel, while mid-century inspired furniture completes the look.
