Super smoothies

If you’re stuck in a smoothie rut – whether that’s an eternal cycle of bananas and milk, or frozen berries every day – then who better to inspire you than Madeleine Shaw and a host of other wellness bloggers?

Earlier this week we sent our writer, Amris, to our smoothie studio, to get inventive with health bloggers before having their creations styled and shot by professionals.

When it comes to smoothies, we often stick to what we know. Mine always feature a banana, almond milk and a bit of almond butter, although that's partly because my blender is decades old and might not survive an encounter with anything firmer than those ingredients.

So I was really excited about meeting Madeleine Shaw and swapping smoothie ideas with wellness bloggers at our event. I arrived to platters piled with fruit and vegetables, superfood powders, chia seeds, herbs, coconut oil and every conceivable milk alternative: our imaginations were the limit.

I checked out the blenders and decided on the NutriBullet Rx – a model that also makes soup – as I've heard it can blitz just about anything. True to form, it whizzed fruit and veg, a hefty chunk of ginger and even ice into a silky smoothie. And I was pleased to see my creation had turned a very on-trend shade of green: Pantone's colour of the year, Greenery, brought to life in smoothie form.On tasting, my Green Supreme had a creamy sweetness, thanks to the addition of kiwi and avocado – a suprisingly good combo, it turns out.

Pink Layer:
120g frozen raspberries
100ml coconut water

Start with the green layer of the smoothie. In a powerful blender, (such as Vitamix) place avocado, spinach, mint and coconut water. Blend until smooth and pour into a glass

Rinse the blender, and fold in frozen raspberries and coconut water. Blend until frothy and pour over the green smoothie

Rinse the blender once again, and fold in carrot, ginger and orange juice. Blend until completely puréed, then fold in the banana and blend again until smooth. Pour over the other two smoothie layers and serve immediately
