Meeting Madeleine Shaw
When she was younger, Madeleine would wake up feeling bloated and tired. So she decided to turn her life around and embarked on a journey to health that saw her travel to Sydney, where she learned the art of eating well.
Inspired to share her story with others, she is now a trained nutritional health coach, food blogger and creative cook, with a list of high-profile clients.
Describe your wellbeing philosophy in one sentence.
Eat better, not less.
Who or what is your wellbeing inspiration?
My inspiration is finding healthy, wholesome and balanced foods that I can share with my audience. I'm always trying to experiment with recipes and produce that are sustainable, affordable and of course, enjoyable.
What’s your morning routine?
I love my job so waking up to the newness of that day is great. I start the day with a few stretches then hop out of bed and have a turmeric tea and a glass of water. If it's an early start I'll whizz up a quick smoothie to go – if I'm working out that day I'll always make sure there’s lots of protein in there to fuel me through my workout.
Do you have a favourite kitchen gadget?
My blender – it makes the best smoothies, perfect mash, makes any soup smooth and is so easy to clean.
How do you re-balance after a stressful day?
I love watching a series or having a bath, anything that gets me off my phone. I also love being in nature. Long walks in the park really calm me down.
Do you have a favourite energising food or activity?
Rock climbing is pretty exhilarating and yoga always wakes me up. When it comes to food, poached eggs on toast gives me an energy boost, and for smoothies, anything with almond butter in it! It's so good.
What’s the one food you could never live without?
Coconut! I'm nuts about it.
And your guilty pleasure?
Croissants and jam, just the best combo.
When you’re in a hurry, what’s your go-to food?
Smoked salmon, rye bread and hummus. It's simple and super portable. Nuts too, they are easy to find and so moreish to eat.
What makes you happy?
Clean sheets, a tidy house, travelling, sunny days, swimming in the ocean, Sunday brunch and live music.
