On trial: Circulon ScratchDefense™ non-stick cookware set

These pots and pans are the brand's most advanced nonstick yet. But can they really never scratch?

The arrival of autumn makes me feel so much more can-do in the kitchen. The nights are drawing in and I’m happy to be at home, taking time to cook comforting spaghetti bolognese, warming roast dinners and hearty sausages with seasonal vegetables.

As well as quality ingredients, a good set of non-stick pans enhances the entire culinary experience. But with competition fierce and kitchen space limited, it’s hard to know which cookware to commit to. Circulon says its ScratchDefense™ non-stick cookware set (five pots and pans, three lids) won’t scratch. Ever. So read on for my review, and find out if my chef boyfriend endorsed them…

What does the Circulon ScratchDefense™ non-stick cookware set come with?

  • Covered straining saucepan (1.8 litres)
  • Frying pan (8.5 inches / 21.5cm)
  • Frying pan (10 inches / 25.4cm)
  • Covered sauté pan (2.8 litres)
  • Covered stockpot (5.6 litres)

What is ScratchDefense™ technology?

Put simply, it's a durable non-stick material that creates a thicker and harder surface than ordinary non-stick cookware. These pans have three layers of ScratchDefense™  non-stick, which means absolutely no scratching, sticking or flaking.

What makes the Circulon ScratchDefense™ non-stick cookware set special?

  • Stainless steel and silicone handles: for a comfortable and secure hold
  • Stainless steel base: for fast and even heat
  • Metal-utensil safe: scratch-resistant non-stick coating
  • Ultimate convenience: saucepans with straining glass lids and pour spouts

The verdict: is the Circulon ScratchDefense™ non-stick cookware set worth it?

Circulon’s pans made it impossible for me to mess up my eggs and burn my sausages. Even better, as well as being suitable for all stovetops (including induction), the pans are stain-resistant and dishwasher-safe. And my boyfriend was impressed with things I don’t think about – fast and even heat distribution and stove-to-oven functionality (it's safe to 204°C). Of course, I need to continue to test the longveity of the pans, but for now, eating fuss-free food has never been so satisfying.
