No tears, tantrums or tear-your-hair-out tempers – it’s flatpack furniture but not as you know it

The moment has come. You open the box and lay out all the pieces. You read (or ignore) the instructions. You hope this time will be different. This time you won’t shout at your furniture-assembling assistant. This time construction will be easy. This time there will be minimal expletives uttered. Well, with EasyKlix, you may get just that.

There are many reasons why flatpack furniture has maintained its appeal over the years. Generally, it costs less than traditional furniture and is great for smaller spaces or hard-to-access rooms. Yet connotations of poor-quality materials, difficult assembly and a lack of durability still linger. Well, forget what you think you know. EasyKlix has a fresh approach to form and function – and, after building this wardrobe, I’m a believer.

The assembly

I won’t sugarcoat it: on opening the instructions for my EasyKlix Harllson 2-door wardrobe I had a mini panic of ‘what the heck am I looking at?’ But, resisting the urge to call members of my family who are much handier than me, I slowly leafed through the pages and realised that this was well within my skill set.

Based on ThreespineID technology, most pieces simply click together with little force. It’s all pretty straightforward but watching the video tutorials helped as the construction is more about alignment and angle rather than brute force. The door hinges were by far my favourite part as you really do feel like a successful DIY-er when you’ve easily clicked a door into place.

What I will say is that I wished I’d made more room to manoeuvre around the pieces. So before you start it’s worth shifting other large items out of your way so you have lots of space to build.

I can’t 100% say I assembled this wardrobe up to 10 times quicker than a traditional one as EasyKlix claims, but it sure felt a strong nine times quicker. And if, like me, your confidence level fluctuates when it comes to DIY, I would strongly recommend building an EasyKlix piece and enjoying the smug sense of achievement when you complete it.

Top Tips

  • Look at the instructions, breathe, look at them again
  • Make sure you have plenty of space
  • Watch the video tutorials
  • Admire your handiwork over a cup of tea while saying ‘I built that’ out loud

The look

And there it was, standing in all its glory, the EasyKlix Harllson wardrobe I’d built. Both classy and neutral, the green pop of colour is beautifully earthy and tones so well with the natural wood. Balanced on smooth wooden legs and detailed with wooden handles, the warm and minimal style is simple but effective. It’s giving 1970s and I love it.

The feel

The soft-close drawers are satisfyingly smooth and perfectly sized for socks, underwear or smaller tops. The spacious shelves are ideal for larger piles of clothes such as neatly folded jeans (for me, there’s nothing more pleasing than denim organised by shade). The hanging rail is sturdy and great for shirts, skirts and even midi dresses. Not forgetting the doors close effortlessly thanks to those EasyKlix hinges. I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality. Did I really build this from a flatpack?

The verdict

A touch more expensive than usual flatpack furniture but I would say it’s wholly worth it. Made to last, the understated look of the EasyKlix Harllson wardrobe is perfect for adapting to any interior style. And if you’re moving house or shifting rooms, it can be disassembled and reassembled with ease.

I’m already eyeing up the Harllson bedside tables to match and looking forward to building them too. ★★★★
