Today, Reformer Pilates is recognised as one of the most intelligent pieces of fitness equipment ever designed. It’s also evolved beyond the studio setting; NordicTrack has just released the new Ultra 1 Reformer – the world’s first at-home connected Pilates Reformer machine – so we can exercise on our own schedule, in our own sanctuary. And summer is all the motivation you need to get moving on this sophisticated and smart equipment.
Why Reformer Pilates makes a big difference
Reformer Pilates is part of the overarching Pilates fitness method, designed by (and named for) Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. The workouts are low impact, but deliver transformational core and strength results. Reformer Pilates takes place on a spring-based resistance machine, and is built around a padded carriage that slides along a frame. Because the machine can be modified (using the springs) to suit any fitness level, Reformer Pilates can support the goals of individuals of all ages and abilities.
What makes the NordicTrack Ultra 1 Reformer stand out?
Let’s start with the industry-first enclosed spring system, which means that instead of manually unhooking the springs, resistance is adjusted with the simple push of a button. Such a simple idea and yet so groundbreaking.
And not to go off looks, but this one is really quite attractive. The sleek black brass machine is made with integrated LED lights and premium wood panels – a high-spec, minimalist’s dream. The screen tilts, pivots and swivels, so it’s always in view regardless of the exercise, and the content on the screen is led by the world’s best instructors. Plus the built-in speakers immerse you in the session. It’s smarter, sleeker and quieter than traditional Pilates Reformers and is genuinely impressive.
How do the classes work?
The machine can be used without a membership, but the iFIT Pro membership subscription (£34 per month) grants access to the growing library of on-screen Reformer workouts, as well as more than 200 Pilates-inspired sessions. Classes are led by internationally renowned coaches, including Yvette McGaffin, visionary pioneer of the Reform method. Each session is intimate, accurate and leaves your mindset completely reset.
“Reformer Pilates is the most complete whole-body exercise. It strengthens and conditions your upper body, lower body, and core foundation, for a longer, leaner, more powerful physique. Our instructors will empower and encourage you through every class. The experience and results are like nothing else.”
– Yvette McGaffin, Reform RX founder and Director of Pilates at iFIT
There’s more to explore
iFIT, the parent company of NordicTrack, is a global leader in fitness, best known for its world-class treadmills. Ultra 1 is NordicTrack’s premium range and, as well as the Reformer, we also stock the Ultra 1 Treadmill, so you can achieve your cardio fitness goals from the comfort of your home.
Is the NordicTrack Ultra 1 Reformer worth it?
There’s so much appeal to investing in an at-home Reformer. While the piece of equipment is undeniably pricey, so are Pilates studio memberships. And this is a physical investment. Best of all, you can always squeeze in a quick session, and opt for a longer session when there’s time – all without leaving the house. Whether you are looking to kick-start your fitness journey or maintain what you’ve started, this incredible Reformer Pilates machine deserves a place in your home.
