Read our interview with Anisa, supermarket assistant at Waitrose & Partners, King’s Cross, London, and hear more about her experience as a key worker and how she became one of the cover stars of the July issue of British Vogue.
Over 24 hours of lockdown, our Partners share their stories of challenge and change as part of the fight against Covid-19. This compilation of video diaries made by Partners at home, at work and in their cars, records life in the John Lewis Partnership at this extraordinary time.
Vanessa Hollis-Hunt talks about how she keeps her family safe from contamination, and the experience of wearing a face shield at work in Waitrose, Maidenhead. Emily Gray, a personal stylist at John Lewis in Leeds, shows us the room in her family home she's converted to offer an online experience.
Meanwhile in Lancashire, Julie Toplis talks about the ‘exciting and actually quite emotional’ day they started sewing gowns for the NHS at Herbert Parkinson, the factory where Partners usually make the made-to-order textiles sold in John Lewis.
To support the incredible bravery of the NHS, we recently reopened our Herbert Parkinson textile factory in Lancashire with the sole purpose of creating medical-grade hospital gowns.
In just three weeks our highly skilled Partners have produced over 6,000 of them to help protect staff on the front line. Plus, we’ve donated over 20,000 metres of fabric which has been donated to volunteer community sewing groups to make into non-surgical scrubs. In this video, we follow our Partners from the first stitch to delivering the finished product to local hospitals.
We’re honoured to have been able to use the facilities and technical expertise within the Partnership to support the bravery of those working tirelessly around the clock to save lives.
Thank you for everything you do for each and every one of us.
