Le Creuset's Balti Dish gives you the opportunity to travel the world in your kitchen by creating authentic and flavourful curries at home. Balti is a cooking method that traces its roots to northern Pakistan and is named after the cast iron dish in which it is traditionally made.
Similar to Indian curries, Balti dishes typically include marinated meats, vegetables and spices. They are meant to be cooked quickly in the manner of a stir-fry, and any meat is usually used off the bone for time-saving purposes. The food is cooked and served in the wok-like bowl, then shared among the table with naan, a flatbread similar to pitta.
The Balti Dish features a seamless concave cooking interior for stirring and tossing ingredients with ease. Conveniently, the satin black interior enamel requires no seasoning, so the dish is ready to cook in straight away. A flat base steadies the pan on the hob, while two generously sized handles assist with lifting and carrying. And because of its interesting and stylish shape, the Balti Dish is also perfect for serving from at the table.
The versatile design also lends itself to slow-cooking by heating evenly for tender, succulent dishes. Extremely durable, the long-lasting surface withstands high temperatures and will not wear off or peel. Over time, it will develop a natural patina that is ideal for searing and frying. Suitable for use on all hob types, including induction, in the oven to 260°C and under the grill, requiring only a low to medium heat setting.
Le Creuset Cast Iron Care
Read the appropriate instructions that come with your item. Remove all packaging and labels. Wash the pan in hot, soapy water, then rinse and dry thoroughly
Medium or low heat will provide the best results for cooking, even for frying and searing. Let the product heat up gradually for great tasting food that's cooked evenly. If you do need to use a higher heat, lower the setting once the desired heat has been reached
Le Creuset Silicone tools or wooden/heat resistant plastic tools are recommended
For best results, use appropriately sized ring for even cooking and to reduce risk of damage to product
Never drag your product across a glass surface. Always lift to move to prevent damage
When grilling, before adding any food or oil, take a few drops of water on your fingers and scatter over the hot surface. If they sizzle and evaporate almost immediately, it's hot and ready for use
Oven and grill safe up to 260°C. Allow a minimum distance of 6.5cm when grilling
Always use oven gloves when handling hot products
Allow product to cool before cleaning. If washed too quickly, thermal shock may occur, resulting in cracking or loss of enamel
Handwash recommended. Freezer compatible and dishwasher safe
