Vaccuum clean regularly but carefully, don't use high powered suction. All rugs will shed fibres, this will subside over time. Loose fibres, or "sprouts", are a normal part of the break-in process of handmade rugs. To remove sprouts from a cut- or loop pile rug, use a small pair of scissors to cut them off even with the other piles. Do not pull the piles out, this can cause other piles to loosen.
