Emily Sargent's vigorous handling of the watercolour medium highlights similarities with the technique of her brother, John Singer Sargent, but overall 'Boats on the Nile, Luxor' showcases her own distinct style as she travelled through Egypt. She established the main lines of her composition and perspective in pencil before applying broad washes of watercolour.
