  • About John Lewis Southampton

Despite the fact that it had been part of the John Lewis Partnership since 1934, it was not until 2000 that Tyrrell & Green changed its name to John Lewis to coincide with its move to West Quay.

It was in 1897 that Mr Tyrrell and Mr Green opened their first shop, eventually selling to John Lewis in 1934. In November 1940, the shop was caught up in a full scale air-raid and demolished. Between 1941 and 2000 Tyrrell & Green occupied several premises.

John Lewis Southampton took up its current residence in the West Quay development in September 2000, occupying the largest unit in the shopping centre.

News and community information

Our refurbishment

Our refurbishment is well underway and we can't wait to unveil the new layout along with a few departments that you won't have seen before!

The refurbishment covers several floors, while the top floor will be left as it is, so you can continue to enjoy a snack and beverage in the Place to Eat while all the hard work is taking place.

We hope you aren't inconvenienced by the work that's taking place. If you have any questions or have trouble finding what you need, please don't hesitate to ask one of our Partners, they'll be pleased to help you.

The refurbishment will take place from June to September 2014.

Join us for Story Time

Storytelling is one of the first things that a parent will share with their child, and it’s something many of us take for granted. However, for the parents of some of the UK’s most vulnerable children, the first years of their child’s life can be a bewildering time. Growing up, they may not have had the experience of being read to by their own parents.

That’s why we want to use the power of storytelling in our shops and in schools to raise money to help Barnardo’s support those UK children who need it most.

Our storytelling sessions will take place on the following dates:

- 21, 22 June

- 19, 20 July

- 26, 27 July

- 2, 3 August

- 9,10 August

- 16,17 August

- 23,24 August

- 30,31 August

Please visit our story time page for more information.

Supporting our communities

Our aims

We're proud of the close links we forge between our Partners and local schools, charities and organisations. And wherever we do business, at home or abroad, we work with communities to make a difference. That's why:

  • Our Community Matters programme in our shops continues to support local charities and community groups
  • We aim to give at least 1% of pre-tax profits to community initiatives
  • We will continue to seek out projects that make a positive lasting impact and reach as many local people as possible

If you’d like to nominate a good cause for Community Matters please complete the nomination form and take it to the Customer Services department.

Community news

- Barnardo's

Helping Barnardo's support vulnerable children.

- Parent Support Link

Parent Support Link aims to support, inform and offer a 24/7 telephone contact line for people who are affected by someone else's drug or alcohol use. Our donation will help the charity to continue to operate the telephone line.

- Meon Valley Carers Group

This charity supports people living with dementia and their carers, offering information, advice, friendship and the opportunity for respite. Our donation will help fund the Art for the Brain group, which allow carers time out from their caring role.
