On trial: GHD’s new Duet Blowdry

The 2-in-1 hair dryer brush is reinventing blow dries as we know it

If you're reading this, you'll likely know about GHD. The iconic British brand is a global leader in high-end professional hair styling tools and I've personally used the faultless hair straighteners for 15 years running.

And now, the innovative brand has launched a new gadget. The GHD Duet Blowdry promises a bouncy blowout with no heat damage. I put the 2-in-1 tool to the test on my mid-length, thick and tangled blonde hair. Was the result luscious locks?

What is the new GHD Duet Blowdry?

A hair dryer and a styler in one (the name duet is a giveaway), the new GHD Duet Blowdry is designed for use on wet hair, creating salon-worthy blow dries at home – with absolutely no heat damage.

Available in black and white, it's not to be confused with the GHD Duet Style, which is a hair dryer and a straightner in one (and has become a GHD best-selling tool). The Duet Blowdry has a two-year warranty and comes with a nicely designed little brush to remove hair out of the bristles, as well as heat-resistant bag for storing and travel.

What makes the GHD Duet Blowdry special?

It can take all hair types from wet to bouncy. When the dryer starts, wait 40 seconds for the beep, then begin.

Ultra-energy efficient yet powerful, the Duet Blowdry uses 40% less energy than a hair dryer and a brush.

GHD's beauty technology converts the energy from the air to actively heat the elliptical barrel.

It maintains the optimum low temperature for styling wet hair (the ceramic barrel hits 120C compared to traditional 185C)

Product prep with the new GHD Volume Forever cream

Designed to work in harmony with the Duet Blowdry, the GHD Volume Forever blow-dry cream makes your hair look fuller, thicker and bouncier – plus there's added heat protection (think of it as a thermal layer over your hair before using the tool).

First of all I applied two pumps of oil to smooth my hair, give it shine and protect it from the heat, then I applied the styling cream to the mid lengths and ends.

4 easy steps for the perfect blow-dry

  1. Wet: towel dry hair and brush with the GHD All-Rounder Paddle Brush. Apply GHD Volume Forever Blowdry cream through the hair (plus any oils / sprays from your routine).

  2.  Dry: loosely dry hair with the GHD Duet Blowdry.

  3.  Volume: hold GHD Duet Blowdry underneath sections of hair for 3 seconds. Lift the tool up and away from the head for that sky-high volume.

  4.  Shape: to finish with some shape, roll and glide GHD Duet Blowdry at the ends of hair, to create that salon-style blow dry.

The verdict: is the GHD Duet Blowdry worth it?

The easiest yes, because I have genuinely never been been able to replicate the salon blow dry until now. My hair is so thick, and until the GHD Duet Blowdry entered my life I had been using a hairdryer and then waiting long enough to style it with various tools. Now, my hair is quickly transformed from wet to bouncy – with no frizz and lovely natural movement.

What's more, I'm so impressed that GHD has managed to create an incredible beauty tech tool while also reducing overall energy consumption and minimising energy waste, as well as installing smart features like sleep mode (which automatically switches off the device after 30 minutes of inactivity).

From the bottom of my heart, thank you GHD.
