Here’s how to take your classic white tee from smart to casual and beyond

When it comes to wardrobe staples, the white T-shirt is undoubtedly one of the most practical, wearable and versatile of them all. We’re exceptionally proud of our 100% supima cotton crew-neck T-shirt which is built to withstand and endure years of wear. It’s produced as part of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), a not-for-profit organisation aiming to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment and better for the sector’s future.

So, come rain or shine, smart or casual, there’s always a place for the ultimate plain white tee – starting with these five versatile ways to wear it.

With a suit

The rules of the two-piece have evolved over the years – no longer does it need to be strictly paired with leather shoes and a shirt. Now, we can take a more versatile and laid-back approach. For warmer months, one of the most dapper looks is a white T-shirt paired with a tailored linen suit and white trainers. Simple, yes, but incredibly effective – and perfect for meetings, dates or a laid-back summer wedding, if the dress code allows.

With blue jeans

Jeans and a white T-shirt is a tried-and-tested classic. There’s something to be said for ensembles that have stood the test of time (and the ever-changing nature of fashion) and this one has been a stylish staple since James Dean popularised it on screen. Give the outfit a contemporary twist by pairing with a chore jacket and sandals.

With smart-casual chinos

Stumped for what to wear when the invite suggests smart casual? A tapered pair of chinos, your trusty white T-shirt, an open shirt and a pair of loafers should do the trick. For optimum style points, keep the chinos and the shirt darker in tone and, if the weather allows, suede loafers are a nice nod to the summer months. Keep the shirt undone and the T-shirt tucked in to balance the smart and the casual, and you’ll be good to go.

With summer shorts

Whether you’re heading into the city for a day of ambling or taking to the countryside for a weekend of rest, a pair of linen shorts is a solid style choice. Wear them with your favourite white T-shirt, reliable everyday trainers and a weekend bag you’ll never want to let go of. Linen is relaxed by nature, so keep the whole look loose by leaving your T-shirt untucked.

With hi-lo staples

There are often times where you’ll be attending an occasion where the dress code falls somewhere between the need for a suit and a pair of jeans. For times like these – you guessed it – you can call upon your favourite white T-shirt. A pair of ankle-skimming tailored trousers will look good worn with your T-shirt and a bomber jacket. Finish off the look with suede trainers.
