Shopping sustainably doesn’t mean compromising on style or quality. Our editors show you how…

The conversation around sustainability is as important as ever and is a healthy reminder that, if we make the effort to be more conscious of the products that we buy, we can play our part in protecting the planet.

Luckily, you don’t need to choose between a more sustainable future and surrounding yourself with the products you love. We’ve asked our editors to pick their favourite items that will put a smile on your face while giving your sustainability credentials a boost.

1

Cruelty-Free Fragrance

floral street

Floral Street is one of our favourite vegan and cruelty-free fragrance brands, not only because of their fine fragrances (which can only be described as a treat for the senses), but because they live and breathe sustainability, incorporating it into every stage of production. Sunflower Pop is part of their latest collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum and the fragrance is a citrus fruit eau de parfum with notes of fresh mandarin and bergamot.

The Sustainable Sofa

The Sustainable Sofa

When revamping your home, think sustainability as you shop for your new sofa. Our Charlotte range uses environmentally friendly fillings which are made from 50% recycled plastic from Plastic Bank, a globally recognised and award-winning solution to stop ocean plastic. As well as reducing waste, these fibres offer firm, controlled and long-lasting support so they’ll retain the cushions' original appearance instead of becoming squashed and flat over time.

3

The Eco-Friendly Jeans

The Eco-Friendly Jeans

For the perfect pair of sustainable jeans, look no further than our in-house womenswear label AND/OR. Each pair uses responsibly sourced fabrics (such as organic cotton and recycled polyester) and low-impact manufacturing methods. And if that’s not enough, they also have excellent stretch and recover their shape perfectly after each wear so they’ll last longer, too.

4

The Organic Shirt

The Organic Shirt

Swedish denim label Nudie Jeans is proud that 94% of all the fibres used in their garments are from organic, Fairtrade or recycled cotton. This 100% organic cotton shirt will fast become a wardrobe staple and can be paired with anything for a classic, laid-back look.

5

Sustainable Sanitary Products

Sustainable Sanitary Products

Love Luna’s period breathable underwear can be washed and used again and again as a sustainable alternative to disposable sanitary products. The brand aims to change people’s habits and reduce the destructive use of everyday plastics, which clog up our oceans and lands, causing harm to humans, animals, marine life and our planet.

6

The Traceable Mattress

The Traceable Mattress

Get a sustainable night’s sleep with The Classic Wool Collection mattress. Using Red Tractor traceable wool from our Waitrose sheep farmers, the collection helps to fight the disposal of wool and puts a potential waste product in our supply chain to good use. The wool is part of the Woolkeepers collective which promotes regenerative farming practices and animal welfare. The polyester pads are GRS-certified and made from recycled post-consumer plastics. As there are no fibre blends, you can sleep tight knowing that the mattress can be recycled at the end of its life.

7

The Refillable Makeup

The Refillable Makeup

Switching between eyeshadow palettes are a thing of the past, thanks to Hourglass’ newly released palette pans and refillable eyeshadow collection. Create your own palette, choosing the shades that you want, and help to reduce waste at the same time. Instead of virgin plastic, the palettes are consciously crafted from tin and post-consumer recycled plastic. Each individual eyeshadow pan is made from fully recyclable aluminium.

8

The Recycled Material Jacket

The Recycled Material Jacket

As the colder weather creeps in, keep warm in our ANYDAY Puffer Jacket. Made from 100% recycled materials, this jacket has insulation for warmth and a ripstop outer that has been treated with a water-repellent finish, both of which are GRS certified.

9

The Reusable Water Bottle

The Reusable Water Bottle

Single-use plastics is a global issue and a huge source of pollution to the environment. By opting for a reusable water bottle, you will not only reduce your carbon footprint but it’s an easy way to stay hydrated, too. This screw-top, leak-proof design is made from double-walled stainless steel to keep your beverage cold for up to 24 hours or hot for up to 12 hours.

10

The Nappy Alternative

The Nappy Alternative

Spice Girl and UNICEF ambassador Emma Bunton teamed up with product director Christopher Money to create baby brand Kit & Kin. Let your newborn try these boosters on for size – made from 100% sustainably sourced plant materials, they are extra gentle on your baby’s delicate skin and offer up to 50% more absorption than cotton. Every product purchased gives back through the World Land Trust to protect acres of threatened rainforest around the world as well as supporting women and children in these areas with educational scholarships, family planning clinics and healthcare.
