Supporting our communities

Our aims

We're proud of the close links we forge between our Partners and local schools, charities and organisations. And wherever we do business, at home or abroad, we work with communities to make a difference. That's why:

-  Our Community Matters programme in our shops continues to support local charities and community groups.

-  We aim to give at least 1% of pre-tax profits to community initiatives.

-  We will continue to seek out projects that support the John Lewis Foundation at home and abroad.

If you'd like to nominate a good cause for Community Matters please complete the nomination form and take it to the Customer Services department.

The charities we're supporting from August 2016 – October 2016 are:

-  Pets as Therapy - PAT is a charity that enhances the health and wellbeing in the local community through the visit of trusted volunteers with their behaviourally assessed animals. Our donation will go towards recruiting more volunteers to help locally.

-  Drayton Junior School Swimming Pool - The swimming pool at DJS is used by children all over Norwich. It is currently closed and awaiting major repair and refurbishment costing £26,000. Our donation will go towards helping reopen the pool.

-  Norfolk Renal Fund - The charity aims to improve the treatment of renal diseases and fund local research projects in Norfolk. Our donation will go towards increasing awareness and funding new equipment.

This is how May 2016 - July 2016 Community Matters' charities benefited from being part of the scheme:

-  Norfolk Heart Trust received £1176

-  Jenny Lind Children's Hospital Playground Appeal received £912

-  Hemsby Lifeboat Rescue Service received £912

John Lewis foundation

Since the introduction of the law requiring retailers to charge for single-use carrier bags, our charity, the John Lewis Foundation, has been responsible for distributing the proceeds to UK charities. We’ve aimed to choose charities closely aligned with the principles of the Foundation, supporting activities that promote education and inclusion, and enable employment. We’re sharing the past year’s proceeds of over £155,000 between six charities.
