This machine is simple to use, good instructions, lightweight for carrying about and is able to do a variety of stitches - plenty for good basic sewing and a bit beyond!

I bought this model after my Mother's Electric Singer machine circa 1960 finally irrevocably broke down.
The instructions for threading the upper and the lower threads are so poor, and the drawings so blurred and imprecise that I have not even been able to use it yet, causing immense frustration and annoyance. I am sorry to say that this is one of the nastiest, cheapest quality appliances I have ever bought from John Lewis and I greatly regret this purchase.

I won't ramble for pages and pages but suffice to say that this is an excellent product, sold and delivered by JL with the usual standards. 5 stars indeed.

Received this as a surprise as I'd often said I wish I still had my old Singer sewing machine from the 60/70's. initially looked very similar but much lighter owing to the fact that a lot of the parts are plasticky and a bit flimsy. I wonder how it will fare in the long run. However, the most annoying thing is the lack of instructions as to how to thread the machine, particularly near the needle. I had to download instructions from the Internet but even they weren't that clear in parts. It is supposed to have an automatic threader but even a skilled engineer friend couldn't see how the automatic threader could possibly work. Had I purchased it myself I would have gone through everything with the assistant but as it was from the Internet will have to wait to take it back to John Lewis 30 miles away to get it all explained to me hopefully! Not for the faint hearted!

From the first switch on and motor power up there was aroma of some sort or other, not quite electrical burning but I put it down to the ususal aroma given off many new electrical products, which apparently is to be expected. This went on throughout the days in use until I decided to do something about it. I emailed Singer direct and they quickly responded by requesting return of the machine for investigation by engineers. It has come back quite quickly and has not yet been put back into use when hopefully the "fault" has been fixed. I have reason to believe it was a motor fault. Otherwise I am told be the good lady the machine did all expected of it.
