Supporting our communities

Our aims

We're proud of the close links we forge between our Partners and local schools, charities and organisations. And wherever we do business, at home or abroad, we work with communities to make a difference. That's why:

  • Our Community Matters programme in our shops continues to support local charities and community groups.
  • We aim to give at least 1% of pre-tax profits to community initiatives.
  • We will continue to seek out projects that support the John Lewis Foundation at home and abroad.

If you'd like to nominate a good cause for Community Matters please complete the nomination form and take it to the Customer Services department.

The charities we're supporting from November 2016 to January 2017 are:

  • Birmingham Royal Ballet - A programme of school workshops which helps children from deprived areas across.
  • Karis Befriends Project - This project supports older people and is part of Karis Neighbour Scheme, a local charity. We offer advocacy, practical and befriending support.
  • Teenage Cancer Trust - They support young people by providing world class cancer care and support in specialist units, local hospitals and in homes across the UK.

This is how February 2015 - April 2015 Community Matters' charities benefited from being part of the scheme:

  • St John's Hospice received £1400
  • The Stuart Low Trust received £800
  • Pursuing Independent Paths received £800
