  • About John Lewis Peterborough

John Lewis Peterborough opened in 1982 but it wasn’t the first in the city - we had a branch of Robert Sayle there until 1956, when it burnt down. Because of the short lease and costs involved in rebuilding, it was decided to close the shop.

In the intervening years the city was designated a new town, and enjoyed substantial growth in the 1970s. In March 1982, John Lewis moved into the Queensgate Centre, opposite its sister shop, Waitrose.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & collect service?

You simply place your online order by 8pm today, and we'll deliver it to your chosen shop for you to collect after 2pm tomorrow. This service is available from all John Lewis shops, and in an increasing number of selected Waitrose branches.

The service is available for most but not all of the items we sell, so please check individual product pages when you place an order. We're unable to accept orders that include items for collection from one of our shops as well as items for delivery, so in these cases, please place two separate orders – one for collection and one for delivery.

Please note: we also have an internal collection point which you can find in our Electricals department on the lower ground floor.

Supporting our communities

Our aims

We're proud of the close links we forge between our Partners and local schools, charities and organisations. And wherever we do business, at home or abroad, we work with communities to make a difference. That's why:

  • Our Community Matters programme in our shops continues to support local charities and community groups
  • We aim to give at least 1% of pre-tax profits to community initiatives
  • We will continue to seek out projects that make a positive lasting impact and reach as many local people as possible

If you’d like to nominate a good cause for Community Matters please complete the nomination form and take it to the Customer Services department.

The charites we're supporting from November 2014 - January 2015 are:

- Motor Neurone Disease

Motor Neurone Disease is a fatal disease with no cure and no known cause. In Cambs we have 70 sufferers. We offer counselling, equipment, holidays and adaptations of their homes. To help sufferers stay in their homes we aim to buy iPads which can control home aids, TV, lighting, entry systems and communication.

- Peterborough and Distrct Multiple Sclerosis Society

The Peterborough branch of MS society supports families affected by MS in the local area. The society provides welfare support and assistance in financing home adaptations to support independent living. Our donation will help to support research as part of the Myelin repair programme at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge.

- Christmas Giving

We would like to support local schools with requests for Christmas fairs, raffles and auctions. If your school would like to be included in this support, please let us know by getting in touch with the Community Liaison Coordinator by calling 01733 294190.
