Supporting our communities

Our aims

We're proud of the close links we forge between our Partners and local schools, charities and organisations. And wherever we do business, at home or abroad, we work with communities to make a difference. That's why:

  • Our Community Matters programme in our shops continues to support local charities and community groups.
  • We aim to give at least 1% of pre-tax profits to community initiatives.
  • We will continue to seek out projects that support the John Lewis Foundation at home and abroad.

If you'd like to nominate a good cause for Community Matters please complete the nomination form and take it to the Customer Services department.

The charities we're supporting from November 2016 – January 2017 are:

  • The Wildlife Trusts
  • It manages 126 nature reserves for wildlife over the three counties, including ancient woodlands, wildflower meadows or wetlands, all of which are free to the public to enjoy.

  • Little Miracles
  • Little Miracles is a charity that supports families and children that have disabilities, additional needs or life-limiting conditions. Any donations would support a private viewing of the Cresset’s Peter Pan, this provides a stress free environment to enjoy the spirit of Christmas.

  • Gauntlet Auto Project
  • The Gauntlet Auto project is a volunteer run charity which aims to reduce illegal motorcycle riding and anti-social behaviour. We provide an off road facility where 11-16 year olds can learn to ride safely and develop mechanical skills.

John Lewis foundation

Since the introduction of the law requiring retailers to charge for single-use carrier bags, our charity, the John Lewis Foundation, has been responsible for distributing the proceeds to UK charities. We’ve aimed to choose charities closely aligned with the principles of the Foundation, supporting activities that promote education and inclusion, and enable employment. We’re sharing the past year’s proceeds of over £155,000 between six charities.
