Supporting our communities

Our aims

We're proud of the close links we forge between our Partners and local schools, charities and organisations. And wherever we do business, at home or abroad, we work with communities to make a difference. That's why:

  • Our Community Matters programme in our shops continues to support local charities and community groups.
  • We aim to give at least 1% of pre-tax profits to community initiatives.
  • We will continue to seek out projects that support the John Lewis Foundation at home and abroad.

If you'd like to nominate a good cause for Community Matters please complete the nomination form and take it to the Customer Services department.

The charities we're supporting from May 2015 – July 2015 are:

  • The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance - they began operations in July 2007 and are based at Thruxton Airfield near Andover. Every day the crew provide an efficient, prompt response to road traffic collisions, sporting accidents, collapses and other incidents and these missions are often life saving. It costs £4,000 a day to keep the helicopter operational. Funded by the public, they receive no Government or Lottery funding.
  • Community Fusion - linking teenagers and young people of Southsea with voluntary projects in the community. It improves the CV of young people to improve job prospects. Provides training and accreditation for young people based in Portsmouth.
  • The Haven - This is the only national charity that provides free one-to-one emotional and physical support and therapies to improve the lives of anyone affected by breast cancer. Funds raised will go towards helping to furnish The Haven's new respite house situated in Titchfield, Hampshire.

This is how February 2015 - April 2015 Community Matters' charities benefited from being part of the scheme:

  • The Youth Cancer Trust received £1230
  • Cliffdale Primary Academy received £750
  • Mayville High School's Dyslexia Unit received £1020
