Join us for Story Time

Storytelling is one of the first things that a parent will share with their child, and it’s something many of us take for granted. However, for the parents of some of the UK’s most vulnerable children, the first years of their child’s life can be a bewildering time. Growing up, they may not have had the experience of being read to by their own parents.

That’s why we want to use the power of storytelling in our shops and in schools to raise money to help Barnardo’s support those UK children who need it most.

Our storytelling sessions will take place on the following dates:

- 21, 22 June

- 26, 27 July

- 2, 3 August

- 9,10 August

- 16,17 August

- 23,24 August

- 30,31 August

Please visit our story time page for more information.

Supporting our communities

Our aims

We're proud of the close links we forge between our Partners and local schools, charities and organisations. And wherever we do business, at home or abroad, we work with communities to make a difference. That's why:

  • Our Community Matters programme in our shops continues to support local charities and community groups
  • We aim to give at least 1% of pre-tax profits to community initiatives
  • We will continue to seek out projects that make a positive lasting impact and reach as many local people as possible

If you’d like to nominate a good cause for Community Matters please complete the nomination form and take it to the Customer Services department.

The charities we’re supporting from May 2014 – July 2014 are:

- Harris House project - Barnado's

The Harris House project provides services for families who have disabled children in need of intensive support. Unique programmes are designed for each family that aim to address specific and complex issues that significantly impact upon parenting capacity.

- Home-Start, Lichfield and District

Home-Start works closely with statutory and voluntary organisations to help parents build better lives for their children. It provides parent volunteers who offer support and friendship to other parents through home visiting, via family groups and through social events.

- Riding for the Disabled (RDA) - Spinny Group

Spinny Group RDA provides a riding experience for children with physical and/or mental disabilities. Through weekly riding sessions the mental and physical stimulation gained from riding horses is a valuable aid to regaining mobility, strengthening core stability and improving balance and coordination skills.
