What will be open or closed in the shop and how can I prepare?

Open

  • All of our usual shopping departments will be open, but there will be new measures in place to ensure your safety. For example, if you're trying on sunglasses a Partner will clean them before and after each use.
  • Click & Collect is still available
  • Customer service desks and gift wrapping will still be open. Our Customer support, Welcome desks and Experience desks are also open
  • Opticians will open with new operating procedures, however, eye tests will only be available for emergencies
  • Our lifts will also be open but they will be limited to 1 lift per person, or household
  • Toilet and baby changing facilities will be available and cleaned regularly


Temporarily closed

  • Fitting rooms, but items can be returned up to 35 days after purchase
  • Close-contact in-store services such as beauty, personal styling appointments, home design services, and nursery advice services. Book virtual appointment
  • In-store events aren't taking place at the moment, but you can sign up to our virtual events and experiences. See our Virtual Event page for more information.

How to prepare

  • Please wear a face covering while in our shop*
  • Vulnerable customers will be fast-tracked through the queue, please speak to a Customer service host at our entrance
  • You can check stock availability at your local shop on our app before you arrive. Download our app
  • my John Lewis members can use our website or app to scan your card at the till and your in-store receipts will be saved in the Kitchen Drawer for access at any time. Join now
  • For problems with an electrical item, you can save yourself a visit and receive aftersales support. Book a repair service, or check on an existing repair by calling our technical support team on 0330 123 0106
  • For returns, we will honour unwanted purchases that were made in our shops, on or after 18 February 2020, for up to 35 days from when the individual shop reopens that you wish to return to.  Read our returns policy
  • We'll have a drop box for online returns. Please speak to a Partner at the door for help using this returns method. You can use the box if you’re returning an online purchase, a parcel that's less than 20cm thickness x 45cm width, items that are unwanted and in perfect condition only. KEEPING YOUR DISTANCE

Help us keep everyone safe by keeping a 2-metre distance from customers and Partners when you're in the shop. We’ve added new signage to help guide you and we ask that you shop alone where possible. Some seating areas may also be closed, there will be signage where appropriate.

LIMITING THE NUMBER OF CUSTOMERS

To help us all follow social distancing guidelines, we’ll limit the number of customers in the shop at one time, so you may have to queue to enter. Customer service hosts will be on hand to ensure we welcome you into the shop as quickly as it’s safe to do so.

Enhanced Cleaning

ENHANCED CLEANING

We’ve enhanced cleaning practices, including sanitising baskets after every use and regular cleaning of touch points around our shops. We’ll also be providing hand sanitiser at entrances and around the store for you to use.

Payments & Collections

PAYMENTS AND COLLECTIONS

We’ve installed protective screens at key points around the shop, including tills and customer service desks. We encourage you to pay by card and we’ve increased our contactless payment limit to £45.
There will also be designated till points where you can collect online orders.
